This is a dual role for someone who never wants to leave the classroom but is ready to lead beyond it. You'll spend roughly half your time leading a classroom and half your time supporting the Campus Director with operations, teacher development, and family experience. This is intentional. At TMS, we don't draw hard lines between admin and teachers — our school leaders stay connected to the classroom because that's where the work actually happens. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (required) California Child Development Site Supervisor Permit (or eligible to obtain within 90 days) 3+ years as a Lead Teacher in a licensed childcare or preschool setting Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other teachers Working knowledge of California Title 22 licensing requirements Fluency in Conscious Discipline (or willingness to become certified) Strong, warm communication with families Comfort with technology and operational systems Teaching Responsibilities (~50% of role) Lead a classroom with confidence, warmth, and high expectations Plan and deliver age-appropriate curriculum aligned with our whole-child pedagogy Build pre-literacy, early math, and inquiry skills through hands-on instruction Practice Conscious Discipline and gentle behavior guidance Foster kindergarten-readiness — focus, independence, and collaboration Update families via our parent communication app and a Canva-designed monthly newsletter Track and share student progress with parents Site Supervisor Responsibilities (~50% of role) Partner with the Campus Director on daily operations, scheduling, and licensing compliance Coach Teaching Assistants and Lead Teachers across infant, toddler, and Pre-K rooms Step in as acting Director when needed — meetings, time off, training days Support hiring, onboarding, and the TA-to-Lead promotion pathway Maintain classroom quality standards and Conscious Discipline implementation across the campus Support family experience from tour through enrollment through graduation Collaborate with the Site Supervisors and Directors at our four other campuses Why This Role Is Different Most Site Supervisor roles in early childhood education are office jobs. This one isn't. We believe the best operational leaders are the ones who still teach — they understand what classrooms actually need because they're still in one. If you've ever felt pushed away from kids by a promotion, this role is built for the opposite. What We Offer $78,000-$85,000 annually, based on experience and credentials Health, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) with employer match Paid time off and holidays Professional development support and Site Supervisor Permit funding if needed A real seat at the campus leadership table A career path toward Campus Director as TMS continues to grow About The Modern Schoolhouse The Modern Schoolhouse is a premium early childhood education company operating five campuses across California — Eagle Rock, San Gabriel, Pasadena, Duarte, and San Mateo. Our San Mateo campus is licensed for up to 90 children across infant, toddler, and Pre-K classrooms. We use a whole-child curriculum and the Conscious Discipline behavior framework, with an emphasis on both academic excellence and social-emotional development.
