Provides direction for the program and classroom and assists in planning and implementing age-appropriate program curriculum. This position is also responsible for helping with recordkeeping, classroom supplies inventory, and any safety issues. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that is in accordance with the association's policies and procedures that focus on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Responsibilities Conduct classroom programs in compliance with department policies and procedures following all state and federal laws and regulations. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Maintain all children's classroom records in an up-to-date accurate and appropriate manner. Advise supervisor of all incidents, problems and occurrences with staff, children, parents, and program. Complete assignments in a timely, organized, neat, and accurate manner. Attend and participate in regular in-service training for staff. Advise the Early Learning Center Director of necessary equipment repair and general maintenance needs Follow daily opening and / or closing procedures. Ensure the work, classroom, and program activity areas are kept in an organized and tidy manner. Ensure a safe and healthy environment for all program participants. Employ consistent methods of child behavior management and work with all staff in maintaining consistent and fair techniques. Give attention to and solve day-to-day "crisis" that occur in the program. Address parent and program participant concerns in a timely and professional manner. Supervise and assist children with meals and snack time. Ensure children have regular diaper changes and their personal needs are met. Supervise nap/quiet time for children. Maintain State Licensing and staff/child ratio requirements at all times. Orient new parents and children to the program and assist with tours as needed. Requirements A minimum of 12 ECE units from an accredited college and a commitment to continue education to obtain an AA or BA in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Infant/Toddler ECE units are required. Completed of infant and toddler courses from an accredited college with a "C" grade or better. Must have current Infant/Child/Adult CPR, First Aid, AED certifications. Complete in-house and online Safety, Sexual Harassment, Child Abuse Prevention, Mandated Reporter and other assigned trainings within the first 30 days of hire. Up-to-date TB test every 2 years. If you have a chest x-ray on file a TB test is no longer required. Must have a current Live scan active on file. One year previous experience working with infants and/or toddlers in a developmental setting preferred. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
