Job Description
Reporting to the Head Chef, the On-Call Kitchen Assistant plays an important role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the kitchen. This position assists with food preparation, cleanliness, and maintaining Kids & Company standards to help deliver high-quality childcare services. Key Responsibilities Assist with cutting fruits/Vegetables and helping in the preparation of Hot lunches and daily food production Receiving and storage of deliveries as related to the commissary kitchen Effective storage, management, and safe rotation (FIFO) of all products Ensure safe food storage and disposal, including taking daily logs of food temperature, sanitizer temperature, and refrigerator/freezer temperatures. Following the FIFO (First in First Out) rule and rotating inventory as required. Complies with all health and hygiene requirements under all food safety and handling legislation. Follows proper washing and sanitizing procedures for all dishware after collection from classrooms Assists kitchen operations, including scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of appliances, counters, cupboards, and drawers. Required to prepare food for field trips, school-age programs, and community events from time to time. Ad hoc duties may be assigned. Duties and responsibilities may change from time to time depending on the needs of the commissary. Schedule This is an on-call position with no guaranteed hours. Shifts are scheduled based on operational needs and may vary week to week. Start time is 4:00 am Job Requirements 2-3 years of kitchen assistant or related experience preferred High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary education is an asset Valid Food Handler Certification Experience in a high-volume kitchen environment preferred Experience in a daycare or long-term care setting is an asset Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team Highly organized and detail-oriented Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks (standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling) Must be able to provide two pieces of valid government ID and pass a criminal background check Additional Information Thank you for your interest in Kids & Company.
