This is a great opportunity for an early childhood leader with experience in a preschool, childcare, daycare, or Head Start setting. The Assistant Director will support daily center operations, help lead teachers and staff, maintain licensing and program compliance, and help create a safe, nurturing environment for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
Assistant Director Responsibilities:
Support daily childcare center operations, staffing, scheduling, and program quality Lead, coach, and support preschool teachers and classroom staff while working in ratio with children as needed Build strong relationships with families, children, staff, and community partners Ensure compliance with DC childcare licensing requirements, Head Start standards, NYAEYC standards, and health/safety policies Support aftercare, extended day, and subsidy programming Maintain licensing, compliance, and center documentation Step into Center Director responsibilities in the Director's absence Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for young children
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field required Must meet state/local licensing requirements for Assistant Director positions, including Credential Level 3 certification Minimum 2 years of experience in a preschool, childcare, daycare, or Head Start setting required Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred Knowledge of Head Start standards and early childhood licensing requirements preferred Passion for supporting children, families, and educators in an early learning environment Make a difference in early childhood education in Washington, DC — apply today.
