//dcps.my.salesforce-sites.com/ts2__JobDetails?jobId=a0xPn000006EhsrIAC&tSource= Position Overview The Early Childhood Educational Aide ensures the physical environment is safe and healthy; assists preschool children with daily living skills (including toileting and dressing); helps the teacher observe the skills of individual children, assesses their strengths and the areas that need improvement; organizes and prepares instructional materials; and co-supervises the class at all times. The position is located in all public elementary schools within the DCPS system. This position reports directly to the principal of the school to which the incumbent is assigned. Job Duties The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Collaborates in the implementation of the daily lesson plans by performing tasks that reinforce learning.
  • Assists the teacher in regularly observing students and taking anecdotal notes to inform planning, arrangement of small groups, the set-up of the classroom and interest areas, and assessments.
  • Assist with facilitating family style meals during lunchtime. Educational Aides are encouraged to engage children in conversations about healthy eating habits and proper table manners.
  • Provide coverage during naptime to ensure that children are properly supervised by two adults at all times.
  • Provide hands on support to children during various instructional activities throughout the day. For example, educational aides should support children during read alouds, center time, and other small group and large group exercises.
  • Implement early childhood active supervision strategies at all times ( in the classroom, on the playground, in the bathroom, during transitions and at dismissal) to ensure that children are kept safe from harm. This includes counting children before and after all transitions and following the classroom's face to name recognition system.
  • Promote socialization and social emotional development of children.
  • Assist children with personal care and hygiene needs. This will include toilet training and preparation for nap time.
  • Works closely with students who may require individual or close attention.
  • Assists the teacher with the development of individualized programs.
  • Reads to students, listens to and writes down their dictations, and models language by conversing with students throughout the day, while also encouraging students' conversations between each other when appropriate.
  • Works with groups of students engaged in drawing, writing, centers, or similar work Qualifications
  • Experience working with children ages 3-5 in an approved setting (Examples include: child development center, summer camp, school, etc.
) Education Requirements Associate's Degree OR at least 48 college credit hours. DCPS does not accept the CDA (Child Development Associate) for this position.
