Job Description

Position Summary The Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the daycare facility while ensuring exceptional care for every dog, outstanding customer service, and strong leadership of the team. This position plays a key role in supervising dog playgroups, training and coaching staff, supporting business operations, and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for both dogs and their families. This position is primarily scheduled Monday through Friday. Although weekend and holiday shifts are not part of the regular schedule, the Assistant Manager may occasionally be asked to provide coverage as operational needs require. As Central Bark operates 365 days a year, flexibility and a willingness to support the team when necessary are important aspects of this leadership role. Approximately 50% of this role is dedicated to front desk operations and administrative responsibilities. The remaining 50% is focused on team leadership, hands-on dog handling and supervision, and ensuring the facility remains clean, safe, and well maintained. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require. Leadership & Operations Oversees the daily operations of the facility to ensure the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, customer service, and Whole Dog Care are consistently maintained. Assists with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, coaching, evaluating, and developing team members while fostering a positive, engaged, and accountable workplace culture. Maintains appropriate staffing levels to support daily operations and assists with performance management, corrective action, and employee development in accordance with company policies and applicable employment laws. Leads by example by modeling Central Bark's Core Values and consistently supporting and enforcing company policies, procedures, and standards. Ensures compliance with all company policies as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Accepts full responsibility for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the facility during assigned shifts, exercising sound judgment and decisive leadership in all situations. Maintains clear and consistent communication between ownership and team members to ensure smooth daily operations. Demonstrates excellent organizational, leadership, and time management skills by prioritizing tasks, solving problems, delegating responsibilities, planning schedules, and adapting to changing operational needs. Customer Service & Administration Delivers exceptional customer service by building lasting relationships with pet parents and supporting Central Bark's mission of providing Whole Dog Care and Enrichment. Answers incoming phone calls, responds to emails and text messages, schedules appointments, processes reservations, and maintains accurate customer records. Resolves customer concerns professionally and efficiently, escalating issues to ownership when appropriate. Follows up on prospective client leads and assists with converting inquiries into new memberships and services. Creates and distributes email and text marketing campaigns. Assists with social media content creation and account management. Maintains and updates electronic records, operational documents, policies, and other internal and external communications. Assists with planning and coordinating community outreach events, networking opportunities, partnerships, and promotional initiatives. Dog Care & Safety Supervises and safely manages canine playgroups using science-based dog behavior principles and positive reinforcement techniques. Provides hands-on care for dogs, including supervising play, facilitating enrichment activities, feeding, administering medications, brushing, bathing, crating, leashing, collaring, and monitoring each dog's physical and behavioral well-being. Recognizes signs of illness, injury, stress, and behavioral concerns and responds appropriately. Assesses emergency situations, administers basic first aid when necessary, and coordinates veterinary transportation when required. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of reward-based handling techniques and maintains a genuine commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of every dog. Facility Maintenance Maintains a clean, sanitary, and safe facility through routine cleaning and disinfecting procedures, including waste removal, sweeping, mopping, laundry, crate sanitation, dishwashing, bathing dogs, and general building upkeep. Assists in maintaining the facility and physical assets by supporting preventative maintenance programs and monitoring building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, lighting, water treatment equipment, and overall facility condition. Ensures cleaning and sanitation protocols are consistently followed to provide a healthy environment for dogs, staff, and customers. Qualifications To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Excellent customer service, communication, and conflict-resolution skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities with the capacity to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Ability to make sound decisions, remain calm under pressure, and respond effectively during emergencies. Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly with customers and team members. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately maintain records and follow instructions. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with dogs in a professional setting is preferred. Knowledge of canine body language, behavior, and positive reinforcement handling techniques is strongly preferred. Attendance at required company training sessions and educational seminars, including those scheduled outside regular working hours, may be required. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds , including dogs, crates, and bags of food. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods. Ability to safely leash, collar, restrain, and handle dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity. Ability to quickly respond to emergencies involving dogs or customers. Compensation & Benefits Starting pay ranges from $18.00-$20.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Performance-based wage increases with opportunities for growth and advancement.
