Schedule/Hours:
Regular Part-Time at 16 hours/week, Friday-Saturday 11:00 PM - 7:00
AM ET Rate:
$18.40/hour "The Sallie House is a DCF-licensed children's group home operated by The Salvation Army, serving children up to 17 years of age who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The program provides a safe, structured, dormitory-style residential environment in partnership with local and state child welfare authorities." This position is responsible for: Providing childcare services for adolescents including personal care, hygiene, learning, developmental activities, and specialized programs. Plans, develops activities; prepares and maintains records; meets with Leads/Case Managers to discuss progress of children. Utilizes positive parenting practices in dealing with negative behaviors of children. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of property. Monitors performance of Child Care Worker staff; trains, evaluates, and takes corrective measures as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures and provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
- Assists in development and implementation of activity plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including materials and hands-on activities. Encourages and participates in activities; assists in direction of staff involvement.
- Determines appropriate supplies and materials for activity plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same.
- Supervises a staff of up to 6 Child Care Workers per shift; provides staff instruction and trains in approved methods and procedures for dealing with child clients.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal childcare environment where there may be changes in weather and discomforts associated with outdoor activities at playgrounds, parks, beaches, and pools. What we are looking for in you:
G.E.D. AND
- Two years' Childcare experience (experience with teens preferred) with knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development, OR
- any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid State Driver's License and driving record approved by Territorial Headquarters Risk Management.
- Must possess valid CPR/First Aid Certification.
- This position requires a level 2 background screening.
