Lead teachers are expected to create a safe, engaging, developmentally appropriate classroom environment while ensuring compliance with all Georgia Pre-K guidelines and DECAL requirements. Key Responsibilities Implement Georgia-approved Pre-K curriculum and lesson plans aligned with GELDS (Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards) Plan and lead hands-on, engaging learning experiences for 4-year-old children Maintain classroom management and a positive learning environment Complete ongoing child assessments through Work Sampling Online (WSO) Collect and upload work samples, anecdotal notes, and documentation into WSO Conduct family conferences and communicate student progress with families Collaborate with assistant teachers, administration, and support staff Ensure compliance with all DECAL and Georgia Pre-K operating guidelines Maintain accurate attendance, lesson plans, and assessment records Participate in required DECAL trainings and professional development Support social-emotional development using developmentally appropriate practices and classroom community-building strategies Work Sampling Online (WSO) Responsibilities Lead teachers are specifically responsible for: Entering assessment documentation into WSO Rating student progress and developmental indicators Maintaining assessment portfolios and evidence Completing narrative summaries and family conference documentation Using assessment data to guide instructional planning Curriculum & Instruction Requirements Georgia Pre-K classrooms are required to use a DECAL-approved curriculum.
Teachers must:
Follow approved curriculum guidelines Align instruction with GELDS standards Plan developmentally appropriate activities across all learning domains Incorporate literacy, math, science, dramatic play, sensory learning, and social-emotional learning into daily instruction Required Qualifications Candidates must meet Georgia Pre-K credential requirements, including: Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field OR Valid Georgia teaching certification in an approved field Ability to qualify in GaPDS (Georgia Professional Development System) Ability to pass background check and meet Bright from the Start requirements Preferred Skills Experience teaching in a Georgia Pre-K classroom Knowledge of GELDS and DECAL standards Experience using Work Sampling Online (WSO) Strong classroom management and communication skills Ability to build positive relationships with children and families Team-oriented and dependable professional Training Requirements Georgia Pre-K lead teachers are required to complete mandatory DECAL training, including: New Lead Teacher Training Work Sampling Online (WSO) Training Annual professional development and competency requirements through GaPDS About Georgia's Pre-K Program Georgia's Pre-K is a state-funded educational program administered by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning that provides high-quality early learning experiences to prepare children for kindergarten success. Teachers are expected to uphold the standards, structure, and professionalism required by Georgia's Pre-K Program.
