Educational Assistant (EA)
REPORTS TO
Assistant Head of School and Head of School
MISSION OF THE ROLE
The EA assists teachers by providing a variety of instructional related support services and other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent One of the following: 48 semester hours, baccalaureate level courses, from an accredited institution of higher education. Must have 3 credits in math and 3 credits in English AA degree from an accredited institution of higher education Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment from Education Testing Services (ETS) One year of general experience involving direct interaction with people demonstrating ability to observe, evaluate and take action or report on different situations
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
One year experience involving direct contact with students which included student management and familiarity with common academic, social, behavioral, and developmental behaviors
ROLE OBJECTIVES + RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides assistance to professional educators by learning and performing duties in the control and care of students; assists in classroom and school operations, expected roles, and functions; and performs other related duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of:
Standard English language communication skills in order to speak, read and write effectively; and basic arithmetic.
Ability to:
Understand and follow oral and written instructions; learn and perform a variety of classroom activities and related clerical tasks; learn classroom management and student care methods and techniques; speak and work effectively with students and others; learn practical aspects of educational program goals, functions, and activities, and learn to use duplicating and other office and classroom machines and equipment.
POSITION DETAILS
Specific Duties:
Includes the following.

Curriculum planning and implementation Prepares specific activities and materials that support learning activities Conducts small group lessons Co-teaches as planned with lead teacher Administrative tasks Supervision of Children Keeps children in view at all times to ensure their physical safety both indoors and outdoors Provides appropriate guidance to children including redirection and problem-solving using positive, culturally sensitive guidance techniques Follows Behavioral Support Plan (if in place) Supervises students before and after school, during recess and lunches Recordkeeping Keeps data as requested by teacher(s), including behavioral and academic data and IEP goals and objectives Assists in writing objective child observations, and maintaining children's portfolios Administrative tasks Classroom/Outdoor Maintenance Prepares the classroom environment as needed and performs clean up and set up for activities
