QUALIFICATIONS
The person in this position must be professionally prepared to teach 3-year-olds. The educational requirement for this position is a 4-year college degree, preferably in Education. Preschool Teachers must be able to relate positively and professionally with children and adults. They must possess emotional maturity, stability, and sound judgement. They must exhibit flexibility in planning and classroom management. Teachers must also be able to work well with other teachers as a portion of each class day is shared with a partner class and teacher. Some aspects of teaching are shared (during partner class time) while others can be carried out with just the one small class during individual class time. Preschool Teachers are expected to have an active relationship with God/Jesus and are expected to model this living faith. They must be able to integrate the Christian faith naturally into school activities and guide each child to know about Jesus' love and God's gift of salvation. Through play, prayer, songs and Bible stories, teachers shall be able to apply Christian values of praise and thanksgiving, knowledge of right and wrong, the importance of forgiveness, sharing the love of Jesus and his command to love and care for each other. Responsibilities 1) Plan, supervise, and implement an effective age-appropriate program that meets the emotional, social, spiritual, physical and intellectual needs of both the individual and the group. 2) Prepare a nurturing, safe environment that is orderly, clean, and appealing; one in which the child is encouraged to grow and explore. 3) Work as a part of a team to set-up and clean-up classrooms or school facilities or prepare materials on a daily basis and for special (holiday or program) activities. 4) Interact with children and encourage their involvement in activities. 5) Help each child to become aware of his role as an integral member of the group. 6) Establish and implement consistent, appropriate, positive guidance (discipline) techniques. 7) Acknowledge each parent (or caregiver) and child upon arrival and dismissal; ensure that each child is released to an authorized adult from the child's pick-up list. 8) Treat each child, parent (or caregiver) and church / school staff member with dignity and respect. 9) Observe and record children's behavior and development for the purpose of helping with individual and group developmental needs, for appropriately guiding children, and for communicating effectively with parents (or caregivers) 10)Maintain effective verbal and written communication with parents (or caregivers) creating and emailing a monthly calendar / newsletters, as well as teacher message boards, conducting bi-annual conferences, and general daily informal contacts. 11)Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly lesson plans based on the curriculum outline; ensure that plans, schedules, and materials are available for substitute teachers in your absence. 12)Effectively supervise, train, and utilize the services of substitute teachers, parents and other volunteers needed for school activity and in the classroom. 13)Maintain accurate attendance and emergency records for your classes; know allergies and special health needs and concerns for children in your care and be prepared to act if needed. 14)Know emergency plans and procedures; fill out and correctly file required paperwork for minor and major injuries. 15)Attend monthly staff meetings/in-service day meetings. 16)Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and any other aspect of professional growth. 17)Report all problems, incidents, and significant information to the ELC Director. Skills Knowledge of childhood development stages and early intervention techniques Able to carry out developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored for preschool-aged children.
