Kreating Young Minds Academy™ (KYMA) is a licensed early childhood education center proudly serving families on Chicago's South Side since November 2025 . As our enrollment continues to grow, we are preparing to expand our program by opening an Infant Classroom , pending approval by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). We are seeking an experienced, nurturing, and passionate Early Childhood Education Lead Infant Teacher to join our growing team. The selected candidate may begin employment prior to the infant classroom opening by assisting in other classrooms, participating in onboarding and professional development, and helping prepare the infant learning environment until DCFS approval is received. Position Summary The Early Childhood Education Lead Infant Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a clean, safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for infants. This position provides leadership within the classroom while planning and implementing activities that support each infant's physical, cognitive, language, social-emotional, and sensory development. The Lead Infant Teacher supervises classroom staff, maintains compliance with Illinois DCFS licensing standards, communicates regularly with families, and ensures the highest standards of health, safety, and quality care are consistently maintained. This position is contingent upon DCFS approval of KYMA's Infant Classroom. Essential Responsibilities Create and maintain a clean, safe, nurturing, organized, and developmentally appropriate infant classroom environment. Provide responsive, attentive, and individualized care that supports each infant's developmental needs. Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and sensory learning experiences aligned with KYMA's curriculum. Supervise and mentor Assistant Teachers assigned to the infant classroom. Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and ensure continuous active supervision. Follow individualized feeding, sleeping, diapering, and care schedules while documenting daily routines accurately. Maintain open, respectful, and professional communication with families regarding their child's daily activities and developmental progress. Complete daily observations, developmental assessments, and required documentation. Ensure strict compliance with Illinois DCFS licensing regulations, health and safety standards, safe sleep requirements, sanitation procedures, and KYMA policies. Maintain classroom supplies, equipment, and learning materials. Promote positive social-emotional development through nurturing interactions and responsive caregiving. Attend staff meetings, required training, and professional development opportunities. Assist with onboarding, classroom preparation, and other classrooms as needed prior to the infant classroom opening. Qualifications Required Associate's Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field or qualifications that meet Illinois DCFS requirements for a Lead Infant Teacher. Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with infants in a licensed childcare center required. Ability to pass all Illinois DCFS background checks and employment requirements. Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain before beginning classroom responsibilities). Strong knowledge of infant development, safe sleep practices, responsive caregiving, and DCFS licensing requirements. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively participate in all classroom activities. Preferred Illinois Gateways Credentials. Child Development Associate (CDA). Experience supervising classroom staff. Experience implementing STEAM-based early learning experiences. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
