This role involves planning and implementing a curriculum that fosters the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child while ensuring a nurturing and supportive environment. The Lead Teacher will guide and mentor the Assistant Teacher and collaborate closely with center leadership and families to ensure each child is prepared for kindergarten.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Duties:
  • Implement weekly lesson plans that align with developmental goals and state standards, focusing on skills such as colors, shapes, numbers, letter recognition, personal hygiene, and physical development through engaging activities like arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and group reading.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments and observations of each student's progress, maintaining accurate portfolios per company standards, and addressing any concerns with center leadership.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, conducting bi-annual conferences to discuss student progress, goals, and strategies for home support.
  • Ensure compliance with Indiana State Licensing requirements, CACFP, and Paths to Quality guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and tour-ready classroom environment, ensuring all necessary supplies are available.
Leadership and Relationship Building:
  • Foster nurturing and supportive relationships with students, enhancing their emotional development through positive teaching practices and discipline.
  • Mentor and guide the Assistant Teacher, promoting professional development and teamwork within the classroom.
  • Build self-confidence in each student by recognizing individual strengths and encouraging active participation and social engagement with peers.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with families and the community, promoting parent engagement and involvement in the classroom.
Non-Classroom Responsibilities:
  • Attend special events, staff meetings, and parent engagement programs, contributing to a positive team environment.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and a positive attitude while accepting supervision and direction.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures to foster a collaborative and effective work environment.
Qualifications:
  • CDA required; Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in early childhood education, with a demonstrated ability to lead a classroom.
  • Reliable transportation required; valid driver's license preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must pass background checks, drug screening, TB test, and physical exam.
  • Must be 18 years or older (per Indiana state licensing requirements).
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Capable of standing for long periods, sitting on the floor, crawling, squatting, and stooping.
  • Proficient verbal communication and conventional hearing abilities.
  • Ability to handle objects, tools, and controls with hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must have near and far vision, color perception, and focus adjustment capabilities.
  • Duties may involve travel and exposure to extreme temperatures during events or assignments.
  • Willingness to assist with cleaning tasks, including sweeping, shoveling, salting, and trash removal.
