Job Description
Classroom Lead Teacher The Lead Teacher responsible for the general supervision and management of a class of children between the ages 6 weeks to school-age. Guide and direct a teacher assistant to maintain the routine of the children enrolled in the class. The classroom staff share responsibilities for the nurture, education, and safety of the children. We set the expectations and example for the relationship we build with our children. We pray with the children at circle time and before meals and snacks. Together Lead Teachers support the purpose, philosophy, and history of the Westminster Preschool. Lead Teachers are accountable to the Mentor Teachers, Assistant Director, and Director and are evaluated annually by the Director. Most importantly, Lead Teachers must possess a kind, positive personality.
Qualifications:
_ Must meet one of the following:_ Have a minimum of CDA awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition or equivalent or has agreed to begin the process within 6 months of accepting the position. Be working on an Associate's degree or higher degree in early childhood education, child development/family studies, early childhood education or the equivalent Have a degree (Associate's or higher) outside of the early childhood field and 3 or more years working experience in a PTQ Level 3 or higher childcareRequirements:
CPR, First Aid, & Universal Precautions training Must pass drug screening, criminal background check, and FSSA background check TB Testing Safe Sleep training, Foundations training, Child Abuse and Neglect Training, and 3 Health & Safety Modules Maintain and hold 20 hours of in-service training on early childhood topics You must be able and willing to lift a child weighing at least 40 pounds. Up to date physical Must be in a capacity to independently care for the appropriate number of children in the staff/student ratio suggested for the age group to which they are assigned. Be familiar with the Voluntary Certification Program Be familiar with Paths toQuality Program Responsibilities and Expectations:
Be a leader in the school and have a positive attitude each day. Demonstrate integration of the Well-Being Curriculum and model appropriate child relationships. Build strong relationships with your children in families. We are a relationship based care program. Planning, supervision and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school (see Staff handbook) Such as universal precautions, diapering and changing, safe sleep etc… Creating Developmentally Appropriate Lesson Plans. Being responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom. Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff. Attending all staff meetings and teacher meetings. Schedule and conduct parent/teacher conferences at least twice a year. Follow CACFP meal program guidelines and check children's attendance at each meal. Assisting in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the development levels of the children. This includes, but is not limited to- ASQ's- due within 30 days of a child's arrival into your classroom and academic and developmental assessments (at least twice a year). Keep a detailed portfolio on each child throughout the school year including: photos, anecdotal records, developmental screenings and assessments, art work, journals etc. Using Procare as a means of communication for parents. Make sure children are clocked in/out each day on Procare. Please note these are not limited to these items, all responsibilities are subject to change.
