Description:
The Lead Teacher will lead the classroom. Provide a safe, nurturing and caring environment for the children at all times. Develop and maintain positive, effective, and appropriate relationships with the children and families.The Lead Teacher reports to the Center Director.
Accountability:
The Lead PreK Teacher reports to the Center Director.Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED. Minimum 6 months experience working with preschool aged children. Commitments to theProgram:
Follow HighScope principles and methods as much as possible, while continuously reading and learning more about curriculum ideas and ways to assist teaching staff with implementation of HighScope in the classroom. Promote the center's philosophy and educational objectives. Support the center's code of ethical conduct. Engage in ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional skills. Support the professional growth and development of colleagues by sharing materials and information and providing helpful feedback and encouragement. Attend staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training provided by the center. Complete 16 hours of in-service training annually, including becoming re-certified in First Aid and CPR every 2 years (in-service must include 4 hours of health and safety training each year). Protect privacy and confidentiality of information pertaining to families, children, and team members. Build positive relationships and communicate in a respectful manner with families, children, team members, administration, Board of Directors, Countryside Church staff, volunteers, and the community in which we serve. Plan and implement lesson plans as required by HighScope Curriculum. Lesson plans completed the week prior and turned into the director by 3:00PM Friday and posted by 8:00AM Monday. Lead the assistant teacher on duties needing completed. Maintain daily classroom schedules and routines. Interact with children. Keep classrooms, bathrooms, storage rooms, outside areas, and common areas clean, neat, and orderly. Decorate and organize the classroom environment in such a way as to enhance the children's learning and development and according to the HighScope curriculum. Prepare for and participate in individual conferences with parents of each child two times each year Enter observations and maintain portfolios for each child according to the template given. Communicate with parents daily and meet with them as needed. Supervise and ensure the safety and well being of the children at all times Support each child's social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development. Other duties can be assigned. Personal Qualities and Special Job Characteristics Must be physically able to perform the job of a preschool teacher (e.g. able to lift children and/or equipment up to 40 lbs; able to stoop, bend, sit, and stand for extended periods of time). Must have a warm supportive attitude towards children. Must be willing and able to put aside personal views to relate to families and support them in non-judgemental ways. Must be reliable. Must be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program. Must be willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance. Must be willing to perform other duties as required.
