Job Description

Pay Rate:
$19.50 per hour Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking a Night Child Care Assistant - Part Time, who will monitor one unit of youth with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities (ages 5-13) during their sleeping hours in a Residential Treatment Center ensuring the safety of the youth and responding to any issues that may arise. The Part-Time work schedule is Thursday through Saturday, 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. •hands on training to complete TCI and CARE certifications during day hours. St. Vincent's Villa provides comprehensive residential treatment for children, ages 5-13, whose behavioral and emotional needs have not responded to community-based interventions and services.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures the safety and welfare of youth during sleeping hours by remaining alert, conducting active supervision, and responding promptly to concerns or emergencies, resulting in a secure and stable overnight environment. Responsible for leading and executing safe evacuation of youth during emergencies or drills in accordance with agency protocols. Conducts and documents visual inspections of each child in the bedroom area at least every 15 minutes, or more frequently as required, ensuring continuous supervision and compliance with safety standards. Implements prescribed nighttime treatment interventions (e.g., special isolation procedures, suicide precautions, scheduled wake-ups) with accuracy and vigilance to support individual treatment plans and safeguard youth well-being. Ensures all interactions align with agency policy, Cornell University's CARE (Children and Residential Experiences) model, and Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) principles, promoting a respectful, therapeutic, and supportive environment. Implements individualized team behavior support plans consistently to promote stability and behavioral progress. In response to disruptive behaviors, applies appropriate crisis intervention strategies — including de-escalation techniques and, when necessary, approved physical restraint — in accordance with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) standards to maintain safety. Immediately reports behavioral concerns to the Night Supervisor and communicates all medical complaints to both the Night Supervisor and Health Office staff, ensuring timely intervention and coordinated care. Maintains accurate and timely documentation, including completing the Night Monitor Log every 15 minutes (or as directed), recording supervisory or medical communications, and documenting youth observations to ensure regulatory compliance and continuity of care across shifts. Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION SPECIFICS
Night Child Care Assistant/404000 Ability to utilize, or willingness to learn computer systems and software, necessary to perform position functions (Basic computer, web browsing, online training, and email usage skills.).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school or GED. Six (6) months of prior experience working in residential care, youth services, or a comparable setting.
Certification/Licensure:
Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training within 45 days of hire and Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) training within six (6) months of hire. CPR/First Aid within 45 days of hire

Remains calm and exercises sound judgment in stressful or crisis situations, promoting de-escalation and maintaining safety. Utilizes strong verbal and written communication skills to ensure accurate documentation, clear information sharing, and effective team coordination. Works effectively with minimal direction, maintaining productivity and consistent care standards without the need for close supervision. Functions comfortably in environments where patients/clients require assistance with basic life activities, ensuring dignity, safety, and appropriate support. Applies foundational knowledge of personal care, housekeeping, and related care tasks to maintain a clean, organized, and healthy living environment. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions, reducing risk of injury, contamination, or regulatory non-compliance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
No remote or hybrid work availability based on core and essential functions of the position. Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or repositioning items as necessary to perform job duties. Requires physical ability to intervene and restrain children in crisis situations. Requires the ability to acquire and maintain TCI certification to demonstrated continued compliance with the established TCI competencies. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one work site to another. Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Communicating with others to exchange information. Hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to drive safely and to observe and communicate with others.
