Job Description

Child Care Teacher About us At Inspiring Bright Beginnings our primary goal is to provide a safe, nurturing and fun learning environment for children 6 weeks to school age. We are a Gold Site with the 5-2-1-0 Let's Go! Program. The Teacher will provide a safe and developmentally appropriate program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. The Teacher will implement programming to teach young children based on the State of Maine Early Childhood Guidelines. The State of Maine Toddler and Infant Guidelines will be used in conjunction with Early Childhood Guidelines to develop programming that will enrich the lives of the children being served. The Teacher will be respectful of children and parents, ensuring communication is clear and timely. The Teacher will ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained in accordance with The State of Maine Rules for the Licensing of a Child Care Facility. The Teacher must promote through modeling and enforcing WMS Mission, Vision and Core Values.
Essential Functions Include the following:
Assist with the implementation of a developmentally appropriate program for young Children (birth - 2 years old) Assist with the planning and implementation of activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program Ensures equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times Oversee and ensure weekly and monthly schedules of activities are created, posted, and implemented Oversee and ensure the development and implementation of culturally appropriate programs and activities Assist with any activities that develop and introduce early social emotional learning, math and literacy, play and behavior concepts Be familiar with emergency procedures Ensure all children are safe and supervised at all times Oversee various experiences and activities for children including songs, games, and activities Story telling are available to the children daily. Ensuring they are learning to attend for 7-10 minutes at 18-24 months old, early learning goals, following 1 and 2 step directions, complying with adult mands, etc so the transition to the 2 & 3 year old classroom is a smooth one with baseline skills already mastered. Work to build children's esteem and independence Establish routines and provide positive guidance Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable Implement positive discipline when required and as instructed by the Teacher Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand Observe children and assist with the documentation of children's' progress Promote literacy and early education as deemed necessary and directed by the Teacher Will keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child's progress Perform other related duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge The incumbent will gain knowledge in the following areas: child development and early education theories and practices safe and appropriate activities for children relevant legislation, policies and procedures to ensure that children are supervised and safe at all times Skills The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills: team building skills analytical and problem-solving skills decision making skills effective verbal and listening communications skills stress management skills time management skills Personal Attributes The incumbent must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties of a Teacher Assistant. The incumbent must also demonstrate the following personal attributes: be respectful possess cultural awareness and sensitivity be flexible demonstrate sound work ethics be consistent and fair be compassionate and understanding be able to build esteem while ensuring a safe and secure environment The incumbent would normally attain the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for the position through completion of a post-secondary Early Education Program combined with related day care and/or . Equivalencies will be considered.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands Caring for children can be physically demanding. The Teacher Assistant may be lifting and carrying children and equipment, and may spend time sitting on the floor or child sized furniture. The Teacher will be expected to clean and maintain equipment and the facility. The Teacher may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves. Environmental Conditions The Teacher will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the Teacher will have to assist with the supervision of all children at all times. Sensory Demands The Teacher may experience smells associated with toileting and children who are ill. There may be times that the environment is noisy and busy. Mental Demands Caring for children can be stressful. The Teacher must ensure that children are supervised at all times, and that children are involved in safe and appropriate activities. There may be a number of situations happening at once, and the Teacher must be prepared to assist with handling of accidents and emergencies at any time.
