Day Care Program / Early Childhood Educator Purpose of the Position To successfully provide children with a nurturing, safe, and healthy environment while educating staff and parents through the developmental milestones. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned. Knowledgeable in the Developmental Milestones from birth through 4 years old. Knowledgeable in the Michigan Department of Education Early Childhood Standards. Group children with their primary caregiver. Staff inform the office when supplies are needed (art, sensory, gloves, wipes, cleaning supplies). Oversee the day-to-day operations of the classroom. Communicate with all parents on the development of their child. Ensure the room has age-appropriate equipment and is organized for quality child development. Develop weekly lesson plans including sensory, stories/music, art, science, math, and motor activities. Post any allergies. Post current list of infant formula/breast milk types. Oversee caregivers and ensure the best interests of all children are being met. Follow the Bay City Public Schools Early Childhood Centers Employee Handbook. Follow all Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers. Maintain knowledge of the BCPS Early Childhood Centers Program Guide and Health Policies. Maintain current Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid certification. Follow OSHA blood-borne pathogen procedures, including diapering standards. Participate in mandatory continuing-education meetings. Know and routinely practice all emergency procedures. Arrive prepared, organized, and ready to meet children's needs. Maintain child-friendly, respectful communication. Maintain professional attitudes and relationships while on duty. Contribute to joint responsibilities. Interact positively with children at their level during play. Greet parents, children, visitors, and staff in a friendly, pleasant manner. Maintain open communication with parents to support child consistency. Maintain constant communication with the Facilitator/Early Childhood Director/Assistant Facilitator. Share ideas and accept suggestions to strengthen the program. Respond consistently to infants' needs for food or comfort to build trust. Praise infants to help them feel competent. Respect infant curiosity while ensuring gentle interactions. Send daily notes home regarding each child's day. Provide primary caregiving for three children, including feeding, sleeping, diapering, and milestone support. Model language through communication, singing, and reading. Encourage brain development through touch, sound, sensory exploration, and movement. Recognize and support each child's unique developmental needs. Maintain awareness of all children in the classroom at all times. Educate staff on weekly lesson plans and developmental activities. Assist with keeping the room clean and orderly. Record feedings, diapering, medication, and sleep for children under age 1. Place mouthed toys in dirty-toy bins.
Ensure safe sleep:
infants placed on their backs in cribs only. Clean high chairs with the three-step method after meals; sweep floors; deep-clean weekly. Rotate play areas throughout the day (floor play, stroller walks, rocking, tummy time, etc.). Enjoy working with children. Dimensions of Position Supervise children and personnel assigned to the Infant Room under the guidance of the Center Administrator. Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made. Education and/or Experience Must meet State of Michigan requirements for Lead Caregiver. Must be at least 19 years old. High school diploma or GED. Meet Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers education requirements. Be of responsible character and suitable to meet children's needs. Current physical and TB test. A genuine love for children. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Current First Aid, Adult and Pediatric CPR, and AED certification. Computer Skills Ability to communicate via email. Language Skills Ability to read technical procedures, program guides, health policies, and licensing requirements. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and adapt to varied instructions and situations. Other Skills and Abilities Apply knowledge of current research and theory. Build effective relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community. Strong oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and laws. Physical Demands Regularly required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. Must occasionally lift/push up to 50 pounds. Responsible for the safety and well-being of children and others. Must adjust focus and read handwritten or typed materials. Must respond to multiple demands and interact with the public and staff.
