Members of our Child Care Assistant Teacher Staff are responsible for caring for young children under the guidance of each classroom's lead teacher. This position includes building relationships by providing excellent service to children and their families. Child supervision and care, injury prevention, and age-appropriate games/activities are the general functions of the job.
Responsibilities:
Assist in planning both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy. Take on lead responsibilities in the absence of the lead teacher. Maintain open communications daily with lead teacher and parents. Maintain a safe and healthy environment. Attend in-service and staff meetings. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older. Minimum high school diploma. Requires a friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic personality. Must have strong relationship-building and communication skills. Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations if needed. A commitment to working with children in a developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on their lives. Evidence of study in the field of Early Childhood Development. Completion of YMCA trainings within a required time frame. Completion of background check requirement as dictated by the State of Michigan.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, speak, hear, and have visual acuity.
