Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Educator supports the Lead Classroom Educator in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children. This role assists with supervision, daily routines, and implementation of classroom activities while ensuring compliance with all applicable North Dakota childcare licensing requirements. The Assistant Educator models ABLE, Inc.'s mission and values by promoting inclusive, relationship-based care and supporting the individual needs of all children. This position works under the direct supervision of the Lead Classroom Educator and Program Leadership.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Child Supervision & Safety Provide active supervision of children at all times to ensure safety and well-being Assist in maintaining required staff-to-child ratios and immediately notify the Lead Educator or Program Leadership of any ratio concerns or gaps. Support implementation of safety procedures during classroom activities, transitions, and outdoor play Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures in accordance with licensing standards May not be solely responsible for a group of children unless meeting all age and licensing requirements Classroom Support & Learning Environment Assist the Lead Classroom Educator in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans and daily activities Support children's learning through play, structured activities, and guided interaction Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment Assist with classroom setup, organization, and cleanup throughout the day Caregiving & Daily Routines Assist with daily care routines including diapering, toileting, handwashing, meals, and rest periods Support children in developing independence and self-help skills Ensure proper hygiene practices are followed at all times Behavior Support & Social Development Model positive behavior and respectful communication Support children's social-emotional development using positive guidance strategies Redirect behavior appropriately and seek support from the Lead Educator when needed Teamwork & Communication Follow direction and guidance from the Lead Classroom Educator Communicate professionally and respectfully with coworkers, families, and supervisors Report concerns related to child safety, health, behavior, or classroom operations in a timely manner Assist with transitions, classroom activities, and program needs as directed
LICENSING & COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow all North Dakota Administrative Code (NDAC) childcare licensing regulations Provide supervision under the direction of the Lead Classroom Educator Assist with documentation of incidents, injuries, and required reports Follow sanitation, hygiene, and safe sleep procedures (if applicable) Complete required orientation, training hours, and ongoing professional development Comply with mandatory reporting requirements for suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with state law
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES
Support classroom routines and daily schedules Assist children in engaging with activities and peers Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment Assist with indoor/outdoor play and special activities
QUALIFICATIONS
Meets North Dakota minimum age requirement (14+ with supervision limitations; 16+ preferred for expanded responsibilities) Previous experience working with children preferred but not required Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively within a team Willingness to learn and complete required training Background check clearance as required by state regulations

Must be supervised by a qualified adult staff member (age 18 or older) at all times May not be left alone with children or be solely responsible for a group May count toward staff-to-child ratios only as permitted by NDAC and when all training requirements are met May not open or close the classroom independently
