When the center director is not present at the center, the assistant director will serve as the acting director. Duties and responsibilities Assist the director in the following areas of responsibility: Health and Safety Curriculum Families Employees The assistant director should assist in managing an organized, purposeful program, including a safe, healthy, hazard free environment and a well-planned curriculum, by which the needs of the children, staff and families are met. Specifically, they will assist the director with the following: Attend all mandatory trainings and staff meetings. Assist Director with Scheduling. Ensure all documentation, invoicing, and important forms are given to parents and questions answered. Assist director in ensuring all employees have current and relevant First Aid and CPR training. Assist director in ensuring compliance with fire and health regulations including fire drills, evacuation plans, safety equipment and removal of safety hazards. Ensure recognition, documentation, reporting and immediate action in the case of accidents and illness and monitor symptoms. Ensure that accident report forms are completed, and appropriate authorities notified as required by law. Assist director in maintaining updated files for all families as required. Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of all equipment and appliances. Ensure children are only released, in accordance with relevant rules and regulations, to the known guardian or that alternate arrangements have been documented. Develop Safety and health procedures for all aspects of the center. Ensure all employees are aware of health and safety documents such as the Child Abuse Protocol, Infectious Disease Control Guidelines and Workplace Health and Safety Regulations. Ensure compliance with health regulations including hygienic practices related to food storage, preparation, hand washing, diaper changing, etc. Implement a process to ensure that medication permission slips are signed, and that medication is administered and recorded. Provide mentoring and support to staff as well as disciplinary action when necessary. Includes documentation of disciplinary action for employee files as well as documentation of performance reviews. Assist director in ensuring all training is completed for staff as required by regulation. Ensure all child to staff ratios are always met and that no more than the licensed capacity is served at one time. Includes monitoring each room to enforce white board counts and child counts. Qualifications Be an adult in good physical, cognitive, social and emotional health, and shall use mature judgement when making decisions impacting the quality of childcare. Possess knowledge or experience in management and interpersonal relationships. Education High School Diploma Growing Futures - Getting Started. Specialized knowledge General childcare education Ongoing desire to learn more about the childcare field. Child Development Assoicate Skills Understanding of ratio and how we can move students to maximize staff and space. Abilities Able to be flexible and assist with classroom management. Other characteristics such as personal characteristics Well organized Experience At least 2 years of childcare experience. Managerial experience Supervises (In the absence of the center director)
