Job Description

The Colonie Youth Center has an opening for a qualified Toddler Teacher/Pre-School teacher to work in a daycare center at the Shaker Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Colonie, New York.
Responsibilities:
  • Plan, supervise and implement the program for the class in accordance with
  • the policies and philosophy of the center.
  • Create and implement a play-based, developmentally appropriate, emergent curriculum for toddlers.
  • Plan weekly lesson plans with the Assistant Teacher.
  • Practice effective classroom management techniques, including the arrangement of
  • the classroom learning environment.
  • Create the program to meet the needs of each child's interests, needs, special talents and individual style.
  • Build positive relationships and maintain open communication with parents and families about their child's behaviors and development.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with staff.
  • Work effectively to share responsibility in the classroom and provide direction when needed.
  • Participate in training programs and conferences.
  • Responsible for completing 15 hours of professional development/ training within the first 6 months of employment, and 30 hours of professional development/ trainings every 2 years, as mandated by The Office of Children and Family Services. Online and in-person training opportunities will be provided.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Plan and implement annual parent/teacher conferences. Also, to be available for conferences with parents when requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality with information regarding children and families.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, in the field of Early Childhood Development and Education or related field.
  • Have professional experience working with young children.
  • Must be able to meet the Professional Standards set forth by the center.
  • Must hold a CDA or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field, as required by
NYS OCFS.
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
  • CDA or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field as required by NY OCFS.
  • Have professional experience working with young children.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lifting
  • Sitting on the classroom floor.
  • Daily cleaning and other maintenance of the classroom.
  • Assisting children with accidents and clothing changes as needed.
