Job Description

DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
1. Create a classroom environment which meets the needs of each individual child. 2. Be familiar with the Head Start Child Development, Early LearningFramework. 3. Promote children's development and learning through implementationof developmentally appropriate activities. Use positive guidance strategies to teach, encourage, and redirectappropriate classroom behavior. 4. Implement a child-centered curriculum and learning environment thatencourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivationto promote development in all domains for children of all abilities. 5. Employ a variety of developmentally appropriate instructionaltechniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of theindividual or student groups involved. 6. Provide children with a consistent classroom routine, positive guidance, and discipline in supporting children as they acquire school readiness skillsfor Prek, kindergarten and beyond. 7. Address challenging behaviors by observing to determine possible causesof the behavior, implementing preventive measures, teaching the child newsocial and communication skills and partnering with families to support thechild at home. 8. Use observations of children and anecdotal notes to document children'sprogress and individualize curriculum 9. Assess children two times a year using the assessment tool adopted bythe program. 10. Conduct or assist in coordinating developmental prescreening ofchildren. 11. Supervise and eat nutritionally prepared meals with the children as a curriculumactivity and to model good nutrition and proper social skills for preschoolchildren. 12.Supervise allclassroom field trips and outdoor activities. 13. Develop close partnerships with families to establish positive interaction patterns inprogram, school, and home. 14. Gather and maintain individual, familyand classroom records. Follows theagency confidentiality policy in record keeping. 15. Implementall program policies and procedures such as attendance, hand washing, mealtime,health emergency, etc.to ensure that the program goals be met. 16. Takeall necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities. Provide supervision and ensure the safety andsecurity of children at all times in accordance with program standards and daycare licensing requirements. 17. Buildpositive relationships with staff members, families and children. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to effective learning and respects individual differences and diversity. 18. Attendand participate in faculty meetings. 19. Attend training as required by Joy Learning Garden andregulating agencies in order to achieve professional growth. Record and document or staff development training asappropriate in the training documentation form. 20. Establishpositive and productive relationships with families focusing on a relationship oftrust and rapport. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication withparents. 21. Maintain professionalism at alltimes at the workplace. 22. Accept assignments as deemednecessary to accommodate program needs and changes.
REQUISITE BACKGROUND
1. An associate, baccalaureate or advanced degree inearly childhood education; 2. An associate degree in a field related to earlychildhood education and coursework equivalent to a major relating to earlychildhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children; 3. A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any fieldand coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education,with experience teaching preschool-age children
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.A baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education; or 2.A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any subject, and coursework equivalent toa major relating to earlychildhood education with experience teachingpreschool-age children. 3. Bilingual speaker a plus (English/Chinese or English/Spanish)
