Job Description
Looking for a childcare substitute in Danby! Danby Daycare operates as a Montessori-inspired nature school. We appreciate the independence fostered by the Montessori method and the ability it creates in children to engage in a state of "flow" while focusing on their work. We believe it is at this age that we build the foundation of our future learning and we want to create an environment that prepares children for the modern and future world. We do this by working on practical life skills and socio-emotional learning while supporting children in developing their executive function at an early age. Our schedule is 8:15 am-4 pm Monday through Thursday. The owner will be on maternity leave from late October 2026 to sometime in January 2027 and we're hoping for someone to cover her hours and possibly be available as a substitute after. We will be needing a teacher again starting in July 2027 for a longer term position. Hours will be from 8:30 am until about 1pm. Pay starts at $20/hour depending on experience You will need to go through a thorough vetting process required by the New York State Office of Family and Children Services, which includes: Fingerprinting Criminal background Health form completed with TB results 3 references (Non-family) AED/CPR and First Aid Certification Health and Safety certificate (5 hours of training) Required Qualifications At least 1 year of experience working with young children, or 2+ years working with children of any age Excellent written and verbal communication A patient disposition and ability to respond creatively to children's behavior Openness to learning about and implementing alternative teaching methodologies and Montessori philosophy A willingness and desire to spend time outside in all weather conditions Preferred Qualifications Spanish speaking Experience in a Montessori classroom or in other alternative teaching environments Knowledge of childhood development
