Job Description
The Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities (TuscBDD) arose from a grassroots effort by parents and concerned citizens in 1955 to provide educational services to 12 children with developmental disabilities through the creation of Starlight School. Over time, Starlight School has evolved into TuscBDD, which is a publicly funded county governmental entity offering an array of programs for over 700 eligible individuals. We officially became Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities in October 2009. We are here to ensure that these residents have available to them the programs, services and supports necessary to help them enjoy a fuller, richer life. Regardless of our size, name, and funding sources, our product has remained the same ~ quality services to eligible individuals for all life stages: Early Intervention (Children) Preschool (Children) School Age (Children) Vocational Habilitation (Adult) Day Habilitation (Adult) Supported Employment (Adult) Activities (Adult) Transportation Service & Support Administration (SSA) Family Support Residential TuscBDD is seeking a Preschool Teacher to join the Starlight School staff in the 26-27 school year. Under direct supervision of the Youth Services Director, a Preschool Teacher leads an integrated and/or special education preschool classroom, assesses levels and needs of students and develops the Individual Education Plans in accordance with applicable sections of the Ohio Administrative Code and with other team members; plans and implements instructional programs and provides instruction to students with developmental delays; provides direction and training to assigned classroom assistants, aides and/or volunteers; provides consultation to parents/caregivers; prepares and maintains required reports and records; attends and/or conducts meetings, in-services and conferences.
QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching certification issued by the ODEW or a qualifying bachelor's degree and the ability to earn this certification prior to first day of employment required Intervention Specialist credential preferred Must hold and maintain a current, valid driver's license Must maintain insurability with automobile insurance carriers Must acquire and maintain Board approved first aid and CPR certification and crisis prevention/intervention training Must complete forty hours of on-line Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training within the first year of employmentESSENTIAL DUTIES
Plans and implements instructional programs and notes progress on program goals and/or objectives in accordance with the Individual Education Plans (IEP) of assigned students. Assesses the educational needs of assigned students. Provides educational guidance to parents/guardians/caregivers of assigned students through effective formal and informal conferences. Carries out assigned duties related to the general welfare of the students (e.g., safety precautions, self-help needs, positioning, feeding, assisting students on/off transportation vehicles, etc.), including the lifting of students and equipment. Maintains appropriate records and files on individuals served, completes forms and reports as required and ensures the confidentiality of all such information. Participates as an interdisciplinary team member in making recommendations for educational program goals, instructional objectives and methods of instruction in the IEP's of assigned students. Provides direction and training to assigned classroom assistants, 1 on 1 aides and/or volunteers. Attends, conducts and/or participates in placement conferences, staffing, meetings, assigned committees, in-services and parent-teacher conferences and/or home visits. Manages the record keeping related to the classroom. Assists in program planning, public relations activities and with special projects and events, including the transportation of students to and from other locations, where applicable. Submits supply/equipment requests for approval in a timely manner, makes purchases when appropriate and assures that educational equipment is properly maintained. Demonstrates the ability to function effectively as a member of an instructional team within the classroom and other instructional settings. Fosters and supports the philosophy of and activities related to self-determination. Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to collect data, prepare reports on student progress and to maintain an appropriate rapport with students, families, co-workers and others. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Follows applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards and Board policies and procedures. Carries out related duties as requested.NOTE:
