Job Description

Love working with children, but need a schedule that works for you? Portage Learning Centers is looking for caring, dependable Substitute Teachers to support classrooms throughout our Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start programs. As a Substitute Teacher, you'll step in where needed to help ensure children continue to receive a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning experience. This is an as-needed position with a flexible schedule. Substitute Teachers may have opportunities to work at any of our Portage County locations based on program needs. Hours vary and may be available Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Who We Are Portage Learning Centers is a nonprofit organization serving children and families through Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start programs. Our mission is to support school readiness and strengthen families through high-quality early childhood education and comprehensive services. What You'll Do Support teachers and children in classrooms as needed Help create a positive, nurturing, and engaging learning environment Assist with classroom activities, routines, and transitions Supervise and interact with children in a safe and supportive manner Build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers Help ensure children's safety and well-being at all times Help maintain a clean and sanitary environment Adapt quickly to different classrooms, age groups, and daily routines What We're Looking For We are seeking individuals who enjoy working with young children and are comfortable stepping into a variety of classroom settings. The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, and able to build positive relationships with children and staff in a short period of time. Because Substitute Teachers may work in different classrooms, centers, and age groups, they should be comfortable adapting to changing environments while maintaining a calm, positive presence. Substitute Teachers play an important role in ensuring continuity of care and learning throughout our program. Their support helps maintain stable classroom environments and ensures children continue to receive high-quality services when regular staff members are unavailable. Substitute Teachers may work with toddlers and preschool-aged children and may be assigned to any of our Portage County locations based on program needs. Why Join Us? Why You'll Love Working Here Flexible scheduling based on your availability Meaningful work that impacts children and families every day Opportunities to gain experience in early childhood education Supportive and welcoming work environment Variety in your day with opportunities to work in different classrooms and centers The chance to make a difference when children and classrooms need you most Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Must be at least 18 years of age Experience working with young children preferred Ability to work effectively as part of a team Strong communication and interpersonal skills Valid Ohio driver's license, reliable transportation, and insurance Must successfully complete required pre-employment screenings, including a physical examination and drug screening Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, squat, and move quickly to assist children Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally to support children's needs and ensure their safety

$15.35 per hour
