The Preschool teacher provides developmentally appropriate instruction, care, and supervision to preschool students while planning curriculum and collaborating with teaching staff. Builds strong relationships with families through consistent, positive communication and keeps leadership informed of student and classroom needs. Mentors college students, ensures compliance with licensing and training requirements, documents student progress, and supports school operations through professional development, meetings, and event coverage. Provide evidence-based, developmentally appropriate instructional practices, care and supervision to preschool students. Curriculum planning, team teach, project and classroom preparation. Communicate positively and effectively with parents. This includes daily contact at drop off and pickup, parent-teacher conferences, fall parent meeting, phone calls, class pot-lucks, holiday and end of the year parties. Communicate effectively with Director to inform of important child/family issues, materials needed for the classroom and any pertinent information. Oversee and mentor college students participating in the preschool program, fostering a welcoming and supportive learning environment. Guide student engagement, model high-quality early childhood education practices, and provide ongoing communication, feedback, and professional support to enhance their experiential learning in the preschool. Fulfill licensing training requirements required by the state. Maintain current training in CPR, first aid, communicable disease, child abuse prevention and continuing education. Update fingerprinting and medical exam as needed. Provide extra classroom coverage:
First week of school, winter/spring breaks, visitation day, summer camp, other special events as needed. Professional development:
6 hours of professional development required each year, State or National Education conferences as needed, teachers workshops. Complete child observation documentation, parent-teacher conferences summaries, and end of the year child reports. Attend staff meetings. Other duties may be assigned. Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; one to two years related experience and/or training. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES SKILLS
: Ability to create structured, engaging environments while managing routines, transitions, and behavior in a calm, nurturing and consistent manner for children age three to five years old. Knowledge of early childhood development to support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. Ability to design engaging, play-based, nature-inspired and developmentally appropriate lessons that promote learning through exploration Capacity to respond to children with empathy, regulate emotions, and build strong, supportive relationships. Observe children using anecdotal records and authentic assessment. Use data to guide instruction and support individual needs. Knowledge of how to teach through: Evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with Science of Reading practices Guided exploration Play-based, nature-inspired learning Soft computer/tech skills required to communicate via email with parents, create parent information flyers, and monthly newsletters Observes safety and security procedures.
