Job Summary:
The Childcare Classroom Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children 6 weeks to age 4. This role involves planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that support children's cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth. The teacher will ensure that all care and instruction meet the DHS standards for child safety and development.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure Child Safety:
Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for children. Follow all DHS regulations for maintaining safety standards and report any safety hazards immediately.
Supervision and Engagement:
Supervise children at all times, ensuring their safety while encouraging positive behavior, social skills, and learning. Engage with children through individual and group activities.
Behavior Management:
Use positive behavior management techniques to foster an environment of respect, cooperation, and emotional growth in children.
Parent Communication:
Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's daily activities, and any concerns or needs. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Collaboration:
Work with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the classroom and consistency in teaching practices.
Professional Development:
Participate in training and workshops to maintain certification and stay current with best practices in early childhood education. Maintain DHS-required background checks and certifications.
Health and Hygiene:
Ensure children practice proper hygiene and take necessary steps to minimize the spread of illness. Follow all guidelines for the safe handling of food and other materials.
Compliance:
Adhere to all DHS licensing requirements, including child-to-staff ratios, supervision protocols, and other regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field (preferred). A high school diploma or equivalent (required) with a commitment to pursuing higher education in early childhood education (if applicable).
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in a childcare setting or classroom, with hands-on experience in child development and early education. (preferred) Knowledge of DHS guidelines and early childhood education principles.
Certifications:
Current CPR and First Aid Certification (required). DHS background clearance, including child abuse clearance (required).
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to create a positive and stimulating classroom environment. Ability to complete milestone assessments for children under their care. Patience, flexibility, and the ability to handle a variety of classroom situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow proper reporting procedures.
Physical Demands:
The job requires the ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to move quickly and effectively to supervise children.
Work Environment:
Classroom setting with children ages 6 weeks to age 4, working alongside other teachers and staff. The work environment may include occasional outdoor activities and exposure to cleaning agents and materials.
