Assistant School Age Director Position Summary:
The Site Director/Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, communicating with school personnel, developing the curriculum for the Kindergarten LEAP (Learning Extensions and Play) program, and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the before/after school program.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practice and early learning standards. Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive, and emotional growth. Develops lesson plans for each day, posts them in the program and submits them on a weekly basis to the School Age Director (Monday mornings). Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, electronic portal, progress reports and parent-teacher conferences. Actively engage in activities with the children both inside and outside. Ensure all Stepping Stones policies and state regulations are met. Ensure a healthy classroom environment, including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and guaranteeing the safety and security of children. Lead by example, encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching. Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene, and safety standards. Creates and distributes a site-specific newsletter monthly. Maintain accurate records, forms, and files. Picks up snacks from the Main Center weekly. Maintain professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement. Miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field of study and two years of verified experience working with children. Willingness to complete a Director's Credential if applicable to the position.
Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrated experience in program development and planning for children. Strong understanding of child development. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and computer literacy skills. High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff to ensure safety, strong relationships, and guidance. Ability to build a strong, cohesive team. Ability to interact with children on different levels including the floor, lift/carry children and supplies, and move around the center while supervising children.
