Job Summary:
This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for "[POOL]" positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. If/when a position becomes available, the College will review applications from this pool, and interview candidates whose qualifications best match the specific opening. Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain their active status in the pool. Assists the teaching staff with various duties in the preschool classrooms in accordance with childcare licensing regulations, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program coursework and philosophy, Periwinkle Child Development Center (PCDC) policies and procedures, and other applicable standards. Helps to maintain a healthy and safe classroom environment in a supportive role. May provide child/teacher ratio coverage when the teaching staff must leave the classroom for breaks, meetings, and/or planning time.
Essential Duties:
Assists teaching staff with classroom management by: Helping to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children age two (2) through six (6) years. Assisting with classroom and playground supervision of children while incorporating positive child guidance techniques, assessing child behaviors and the environment, and making frequent decisions to ensure child health and safety. Assisting with toileting, changing diapers and clothes, and supporting children in learning self-help skills associated with caring for their needs and daily activities. Implementing and supporting the daily classroom activities such as mealtimes, free choice, story time, and other related activities, by following the lesson plan as directed by the Preschool Teacher. Assisting with general classroom maintenance and cleaning, including sweeping floors, disinfecting toys/furniture, replenishing supplies, and doing snack/laundry duties and other related tasks. Communicating positively with staff, parents, children, and others. Assisting the teaching staff with implementing a dual language classroom. Helping the teaching staff with record keeping as assigned. Ensuring proper sanitation and food safety regulations are followed. May perform other related duties as assigned. If the ECE Assistant meets or exceeds the State's qualifications for preschool Teacher Aide I, they may also perform the following duties: Assists with maintaining child/teacher ratios by covering teaching staff breaks, lunches, and/or planning time. The Preschool Assistant must be within sight and sound of a Preschool Teacher except when: accompanying children to the restroom, providing medical attention, monitoring an ill child waiting to go home, or supporting during rest time.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a child development center and office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Operates mostly in a classroom environment with regular, required outdoor time. Evening meetings may be required.
Physical Skills and Abilities:
Pushing, pulling, and carrying supplies, cleaning equipment, and files, and other equipment in the range of 10-40 lbs. Frequent lifting, bending, squatting, and kneeling while assisting children or conducting classroom responsibilities. Requires sufficient dexterity to operate a computer. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers. Requires hearing and speaking ability sufficient to communicate effectively. Education and Experience Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. In order to be considered, your application must clearly show you meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Requires a High School Diploma, GED, or Diploma de Educacion Secundaria, and the ability and desire to work with children age two (2) through six (6) years.
Licenses and Certificates:
Requires enrollment in Oregon's Central Background Registry and active ORO account. Requires a current First Aid/CPR certification for adults, children, and infants, or must be acquired within 90 days from the hire date. Must have a current Oregon Food Handler Card or must be acquired within 30 days from the hire date. Must have evidence of completion of Safety Set as required by Oregon Certified Child Care Rules. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. Requires the ability to assist teaching staff with classroom and playground activities for preschool children age two (2) through six (6) years. Must be able to follow established directions and instructions, including all health and safety regulations, and abide by the policies and procedures of the PCDC. Must be able to provide a supportive and caring environment for preschool children, including the ability to display positive behavior and use positive behavioral guidance techniques while engaging with children and staff. Requires the ability to develop and maintain respectful working relationships with children, parents, staff, and other visitors to the Early Childhood Center. Must be able to communicate effectively demonstrating tact, diplomacy, empathy, and friendliness in dealing with stressful conditions. Requires technical ability to use a smartphone, computer, and relevant software and applications. Bilingual skills, Spanish/English, are preferred. Employment Requirement Criminal Background Check

Compensation Information:
All Part-time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position's grade. Placement at a higher step on the salary schedule is not negotiable. Step increases are subject to eligibility, and only take place at the end of the Fiscal Year in July if approved and submitted by the employee's supervisor of record. Hours worked in more than one position or department cannot be combined for step advancement. Part-time Classified employees are paid once monthly, on the last day of the month.
