At the Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter , we provide a safe, loving, home for children in crisis. Our mission is to help middle and high school-aged residents heal, grow, and thrive in a supportive, family style environment. We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate Mentor to join our team. This unique position requires living on campus and working overnight shifts on a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule, giving you the chance to build deep, meaningful connections with our youth while maintaining extended personal time off. Annual compensation:
$35,000-$38,000. Key Responsibilities Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating integrity, respect, trust, and compassion. Provide daily structure, guidance, and encouragement in line with each child's individualized Treatment Plan. Mentor and support children through school, sports, music, church, and community activities. Create a nurturing home environment, planning meals, facilitating family-style dinners, and celebrating milestones and achievements. Teach independent living skills such as cooking, budgeting, homework habits, time management, and personal care. Offer consistent support during emotional challenges, using patience, empathy, and trauma informed practices. Ensure accurate documentation including progress notes, weekly updates, and incident reports. Oversee medication management, transportation, and safe routines. Provide both structured and informal opportunities for recreation, play, and building healthy peer relationships. Collaborate closely with shelter staff and work with local DSS agents, caseworkers, and other child welfare professionals to ensure each child's needs are met. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; college coursework or degree preferred. Minimum 1 year of professional experience working with children or teens (group home experience strongly preferred). Must be at least 25 years old and able to pass a background check. Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification. Compassion, patience, and commitment to providing unconditional love and guidance.
