Job Description

Knoxville-Knox County Head Start/Early Head Start is hiring a Preschool Teacher in Knoxville, TN Summary Now Hiring for Fall 2026 Full-time - 37.5 hours per week The preschool teacher creates a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children. This role involves planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that support children's physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth, while meeting the individual needs of all learners. Responsibilities also include partnering with families, supporting strong attendance and parent involvement, supervising classroom staff and volunteers, and collaborating with Head Start team members to ensure high-quality program services and compliance with agency policies and procedures. Duties Establishes and maintains a safe and healthy learning environment using appropriate classroom organization, schedules, and routines and effective classroom and child management techniques; provides health and nutrition services for children. Teaches developmentally appropriate learning activities and implements developmentally appropriate learning strategies for young children based on individual needs in order to advance physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth and development (with specific attention/provision made for children with mental health or special needs). Recruits, trains, and works appropriately with parents in compliance with Parent Involvement/Education Plan and operating policies and procedures; monitors children's attendance and provides follow-up necessary to ensure regular, satisfactory child attendance. Provides transportation services for children and parents consistent with the Transportation Plan and operating policies and procedures. Directs and supervises classroom assistants and volunteers and provides the leadership, training, monitoring, and assistance necessary for satisfactory personnel performance and effective, efficient delivery of Head Start services in compliance with program and personnel policies and procedures and other applicable regulations. Demonstrates professional behaviors and work habits which comply with agency personnel policies and procedures, works closely with all Head Start component staff to facilitate integrated service delivery, and completes special assignments from supervisor.
