Job Description

Provide a safe, nurturing environment, planning, organizing and carrying out a developmental appropriate program for children 6 months through 5 years of age and serving as an appropriate model for lab students.

Associate Degree in Child Development or closely related area from a nationally or regionally accredited university is required with a commitment to continuous enrollment in a Bachelor's program. Bachelor Degree in Child Development or closely related area preferred. Two years wage earning experience as a teacher of young children (0-5 years) in a licensed child care center required
  • Knowledge of the Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care and the NAEYC Standards of Accreditation.
  • Supervises trains and utilizes the services of lab students.
  • Maintains requirements for a safe and healthy environment for the children.
  • High Standards upheld for a lab school reflected by professionalism, participate in professional association, pursue professional development and educational experiences to help connect theory to practice, maintains appropriate level of education.
  • Provide a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum to encompass all developmental domains and to include a variety of learning areas; music, art, literacy, math, science and social studies with program materials appropriate to interest, abilities and developmental needs of the children.
  • Knows appropriate guidance techniques that support the overall program goals and objectives of CTC Child Development.
  • Record child's progress of growth and development, prepare progress of growth and development, prepare progress reports on each child and discuss report with parents.
  • Be aware of and abide by Texas Minimum Standards and NAEYC Standards. Comply with center Policies and Procedures for staff.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
Must meet Texas DFPS standards to include background checks and fingerprinting. Conduct indoor and outdoor safety checks of environment and materials to promote safety at all time. Sustain high standards of professional ethics in regard to children, parents, and staff; is loyal to the school at all times. Use and models appropriate guidance techniques as taught in the of CTC Early Childhood Profession. Assist in mentoring the lab students as they complete lab assignments and develop critical teaching skills by overseeing and giving feedback to lab students, providing opportunities to lead in circle time, small groups and other interaction. Models what is being taught in the college courses, as requested by Dept. Chair. Develop and share with center director appropriate units, written lesson plans, prepare the learning environment, materials and supplies, set up interest centers to provide for an appropriate curriculum to include a variety of areas; music, art, literacy, math, science and social studies. Promote healthy physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of each child. Maintain records of growth and development of the children, prepares progress reports on each child and discusses report with Director and child's parent/guardian Submit information for parent newsletter. Attend staff meetings, service training, workshops and conferences to meet or exceed annual state requirements Carry out emergency procedures (i.e.) fire and tornado drills Submit list of needed supplies and equipment to the director. Present and on time except in cases of personal illness or injury, death in the family or other authorized absences. Notify Center Director immediately if it is necessary to be absent and notify Center Director two weeks in advance for any scheduled leave request.
