Reports To:
Director / Executive Director Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Child Care Director, the Assistant Directormaintainsdaily responsibility for administering the educational components of the program and supporting center operations. Duties Teaching & Classroom Responsibilities Develop curriculum and provide a structured schedule of daily activities for children in the classroom; lesson plans must be prepared one week in advance. Provide current curriculum information and instructional methods to keep the program up to date. Demonstrate creativity and innovation in implementing new methods for working with infants and toddlers. Assist the Director in encouraging parent involvement in school activities. Attend all parent meetings and parent-sponsored activities. Report equipment and supply needs to the Directorin a timely manner. Give continuous attention to childrens physical, emotional, and intellectual needs. Conduct daily health checks upon childrens arrival and departure for signs of illness, abuse, and/or injury; document findings asrequired. Supervise children at all times, including restrooms, indoor and outdoor transitions, playgrounds, and other activities. Prepare indoor and outdoor interest areas to stimulate childrens learning and curiosity. Demonstrate effective classroom management skills. Maintainaccurateattendance records, anecdotal notes, and documentation for all children. Attend staff meetings and contribute ideas toimprovecenter operations. Maintain a professional attitude at all times. Schedule parent-teacher conferences twice per year or as needed to support each childs growth. Maintain childrens topic boards and art boards, ensuring updates occur weekly. Ensure all childrens work is properly labeled with first and last name, date, and activity name. Collect andmaintainup-to-date emergency information for all children and ensure the office has an updated roster. Participate in monthly fire drills and severe weather drills. Administer medication on time to children with completed and approved medication authorization forms. Prepare and serve meals to children asrequired. Sit with children during meals, modelingappropriate tablemanners, healthy habits, and positive conversation. Clean and sanitize the classroom daily, including toys. Every Friday, thoroughly clean and disinfect shelves, chairs, bedding, toys, walls, baseboards, and launder linens. Serve as an advocate for the center. Maintain a clean classroom free from hazardous materials. Ensure the classroom is clean and organized beforedepartingeach day. Prepare arrival activities the night before. Teach and model positive character traits such as respect, generosity, and attentiveness. Encourage children to be independent and responsible for their actions. Create andmaintainportfolios for all enrolled children. Establish classroom rules and post them visibly. Build positive relationships with parents and encourage involvement in their childs development. Prepare weekly take-home projects appropriatetochildrens ages. Maintain a communication chart to share childrens daily progress and learning outcomes. Plan and arrange developmentallyappropriate learningcenters for enrolled children. Attend orientation and complete 20 clock hours of required annual training through outside agencies. Plan and coordinate age-appropriate field trips. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director. Overtime is notpermittedwithout prior approval from the Executive Director. All major decisions must be addressed through and approved by the Executive Director. Transportation Requirements Maintain center vehicles by ensuring they are fueled, serviced, and in good workingcondition. Notify the Director of any vehicle maintenance or service needs. Ensure vehicles are clean and that children are properlysecuredand safe during transportation. Maintain a valid drivers license, safe driving record, andcomply withall traffic laws. Disable the child safety alarm only after completing a full vehicle sweep to verify no children are left behind. Follow all transportation training and safety practices provided. Performadditionaltransportation-related duties asrequired. Assistant Director Responsibilities Plan activities that enhance development in all areas of child growth. Supervise teachers in planning and organizing learning centers. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director. Maintain schedule flexibility andassistwith opening or closing the center as needed. Addressparentconcernsprivately andsubmitreports to the Executive Director or Director for follow-up. Provide mediation support and strategies to assist teachers in managing childrens needs. Implement positive, supportive strategies for children requiringadditionalassistance and seek guidance from the Director or Executive Director when necessary. Perform all other duties assigned by the Executive Director or Director. Minimum Qualifications One year or more experience in a licensed daycare facility Some college coursework, CDA, orAssociatesdegree acceptable Ability to bend, stoop, and sit on the floor with children Ability to accept redirection and constructive criticism Completion of transportation training Completion of leadership training
