Job Description
Connections Early Learning Center is seeking a passionate, reflective, and collaborative Assistant Director to join our leadership team. We are a nonprofit early childhood program grounded in Conscious Discipline, project-based learning, and Reggio-inspired practices, and we are looking for someone who believes in the power of relationships, curiosity, and child-led learning. This is not a traditional childcare role. We are a community of educators who value connection over compliance, growth over perfection, and inquiry over worksheets. Our Assistant Director plays a vital role in supporting teachers, partnering with families, and helping guide a program where both children and adults are continually learning. Position Summary The Assistant Director supports the Director in the overall management and daily operations of Connections Early Learning Center. This role includes staff supervision and mentorship, administrative coordination, family engagement, and ensuring compliance with licensing standards. The Assistant Director also provides classroom support as needed and helps uphold the Center's commitment to Conscious Discipline, project-based learning, and Reggio-inspired practices. Qualifications Education & Certification Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, or a related field CPR and First Aid certification (provided prior to start date) Current TB test and criminal background checks (required prior to employment) Willingness to learn and utilize Center software systems Experience Experience in early childhood education, including curriculum implementation and classroom management Experience mentoring, supervising, or leading staff in a childcare or educational setting Knowledge of child development and developmental milestones Experience in program coordination, administration, and/or business operations Familiarity with childcare management software and technology Experience with Conscious Discipline and/or Reggio-inspired, project-based learning (or willingness to learn) Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of state and federal childcare licensing regulations and safety standards Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to build relationships with families, staff, and community partners Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing needs Physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds, stand for extended periods, and move between classrooms Core Responsibilities Program Leadership & Staff Support Support the Director in supervising, mentoring, and evaluating staff Foster a positive, collaborative culture among staff, children, and families Assist with staff development, training, onboarding, and orientation Provide ongoing classroom support, including modeling best practices in curriculum and behavior guidance Assist in conflict resolution and maintaining staff morale Curriculum & Classroom Support Support teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with Conscious Discipline and Reggio-inspired practices Observe classroom environments and provide feedback on teacher-child interactions Assist with individualized behavior plans and follow-up Operations & Administration Help manage daily operations, including staff scheduling and substitute coordination Maintain accurate records in compliance with licensing and accreditation requirements Oversee child files, incident reports, and required documentation Assist with enrollment processes, annual registration updates, and family tours Support office operations, including communication, scheduling, and general administrative tasks Monitor meal/snack deliveries and ensure accuracy Compliance & Safety Ensure adherence to all licensing, health, and safety regulations Schedule and document required emergency drills Maintain classroom and program compliance with regulatory standards Coordinate and communicate CLASS observations Family & Community Engagement Support family engagement initiatives, including events, conferences, and communication Create and distribute family communications (emails, announcements, social media updates) Build and maintain relationships with families and community partners Program Support Supervise the center in the Director's absence Provide classroom coverage as needed Assist with field trip coordination and special events Support volunteers with onboarding and documentation General Expectations Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Connections Early Learning Center Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct at all times Contribute to a positive team environment and support staff development Engage in ongoing professional development and training Remain flexible and responsive to evolving program needs General Requirements for All Staff Must pass all required background checks and screenings Demonstrate good character and professional integrity Ability to follow direction, accept supervision, and complete assigned responsibilities Effective communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
Pay:
