Primary Assistant Pre-K 3's Room 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars Norfolk, VA 23505 $15.00 - $15.30 an hour - Full-time Ascension Episcopal Day School 9 reviews $15.00 - $15.30 an hour - Full-time About This Role Ascension Episcopal Day School is accepting applications for a fulltime Primary Assistant Teacher in our 3-year-old room. Work hours are currently 7:30-5:30 with a 1 hour lunch break. Regular operating hours are 7:30-5:30 pm. The shift will be 8:15-5:15 with an hour lunchbreak. The Primary Assistant Teacher will be responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in creating a nurturing, creative, collaborative and supportive learning community for up to 14 children aged 3 y ears. What You'll Do
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assist in the creation and maintenance of a safe and stimulating classroom environment. Follow staff policies and procedures in order to ensure healthy and safe practices with the children. Participate actively in the general health and care routines of the children and classroom environment by washing children's and your own hands, taking out trash, cleaning/sterilizing classroom floors, toys, tables and other surfaces throughout the day. There are additional Covid protocols that must be followed. Assist in the creation and implementation of curriculum conductive to the cognitive, physical, social, creative, and emotional development of young children. Actively engage students in activities, explorations, and opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, movement, decision-making, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children in your care. Model developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques utilizing the 101 Principles of Positive Guidance. Assist in the maintenance of attendance and childcare records for the classroom. Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis and attending staff meetings. Participate in staff development opportunities and maintain knowledge of current child development practices. Consistently maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family, including greeting and interacting with each parent and student every day in a friendly manner upon arrival and at departure. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Teacher and/or Director. Under the coordination of the Lead Teacher and following their directions and expectations, act as the team leader for your classroom when the Lead Teacher is not present, including modeling best teaching practices and professional behavior for other staff members present in your room. Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications: a minimum 1-2 years of experience in an early education center; some college-level courses in early education or a related field; extensive early education training including knowledge of early education teaching methods and child development theory; effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
