$17-$22/hour (depending on experience and qualifications) About Summer Camp/Preschool Program Nurturing Minds Preschool is a small, home-based, Montessori-inspired early learning program opening in August 2026 in the Samish Crest neighborhood in Whatcom county. We nurture curiosity, creativity, independence, and social-emotional growth through hands-on experiences, nature exploration, and meaningful relationships. Our goal is to create a calm, joyful space where children ages 2-6 grow into confident, kind learners. Position Summary We are seeking a warm, enthusiastic, and dependable educator to support two week-long summer camps in August 2026. This position offers an excellent opportunity to become part of a growing preschool community, with potential to continue as a part-time teacher or substitute teacher during the school year. The ideal candidate enjoys working with young children, values child-led learning, and brings a calm, gentle, respectful, and engaging presence in the classroom. We welcome applicants with experience in preschool, childcare, education, psychology, child development, outdoor education, or related fields. Responsibilities Support the daily operation of summer camp programs for children ages 2-6. Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, outdoor activities, art projects, and play-based exploration. Foster children's independence, curiosity, and social-emotional development through positive-guidance. Maintain a safe, organized, and nurturing learning environment. Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities. Collaborate with the Preschool Director to support daily routines and transitions. Build positive relationships with children and families. Follow all health, safety, and licensing requirements. Qualifications Required Must be at least 18 years old. Experience working with children ages 2-6 in a preschool, childcare, camp, educational, or related settings. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to actively participate in outdoor play and supervise young children throughout the day. Reliable transportation. Preferred Coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Psychology, Education, Human Services, or a related field. Familiarity with Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or nature-based, or play-based learning environments and philosophies. Current CPR/First Aid certification. Experience leading activities for groups of young children. Licensing Requirements DCYF background check and fingerprinting (if required) CPR/First Aid certification TB test screening Mandatory Reporter training Proof of education or training hours in Early Childhood Education Schedule & Hours Summer Camp Full time during two week-long camps in August 2026 Approximately 8am - 4pm School Year Opportunities (following Summer Camp Teaching) Part-Time Teaching 1-3 days a week On-call substitute teaching Possible additional program supports hours as enrollment grows Why Join Us?
