Position Summary The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate learning experiences, maintaining a safe and healthy classroom environment, ensuring compliance with Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) licensing regulations, and fostering positive relationships with children, families, and staff. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCurriculum and Child Development Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences that support children's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development. Develop and implement curriculum that promotes school readiness, including early literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, and social-emotional learning. Create engaging classroom environments that encourage exploration, creativity, problem-solving, and independence. Individualize learning experiences to meet the unique needs and developmental levels of each child. Observe, assess, and document children's progress and developmental milestones. Health, Safety, and Supervision Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment. Ensure compliance with all DCYF licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and center policies. Provide active supervision of children at all times. Conduct daily health screenings and monitor children's well-being. Administer medications according to center policies and DCYF regulations when authorized. Participate in emergency preparedness training, drills, and safety procedures. Family Engagement Establish and maintain positive, respectful, and professional relationships with children and families. Communicate regularly with families regarding children's progress, behavior, and developmental milestones. Participate in family conferences and family engagement activities. Respond professionally and promptly to parent questions and concerns. Leadership and Team Collaboration Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to assistant teachers and classroom aides. Assist with onboarding, training, and coaching new staff members. Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Collaborate effectively with colleagues to ensure consistency in classroom practices and program goals. Documentation and Regulatory Compliance Maintain accurate attendance records, developmental assessments, incident reports, and other required documentation. Ensure child files and classroom records are complete, accurate, and current. Complete required training and ongoing professional development hours. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all licensing, program, and organizational policies. Classroom Environment and Program Quality Maintain a clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. Ensure classroom materials, equipment, and supplies are properly maintained and readily available. Support diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices throughout the program. Implement program quality standards, including Early Achievers requirements when applicable. QualificationsRequired Qualifications Must meet Washington State DCYF Lead Teacher qualifications. ECE State Certificate required. High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of Child Care Basics training. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Portable Background Check clearance. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively participate in classroom activities. Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills. Preferred Qualifications Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Previous experience working in a licensed childcare center, preschool, or early learning program. Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices. Experience with curriculum planning, child assessment, and family engagement.
