Send job Job Details Summary The Department of Psychology at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, invites applications for a full-time, continuing track position of Assistant Professor of Psychology beginning Fall 2026. We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar with expertise in applied psychological science (open area of expertise) who can help advance our growing undergraduate program. Candidates with applied research and scholarship experience with a strong commitment to undergraduate research are especially encouraged to apply. The Psychology Department offers a BS in psychology with three optional specializations: Forensic, Industrial-Organizational, and Child and Adolescent Development. With 180+ majors and growing, the program emphasizes applied learning, research mentorship, and community partnerships to prepare students for careers and graduate training. This full-time Assistant Professor of Psychology teaches undergraduate courses, provides academic advising and mentoring to undergraduate supervises students in faculty-mentored undergraduate research, contributes to departmental, college, university, and professional service, and engages in sustained scholarship. This position is In-Person Essential Functions The candidate should be able to teach a wide range of courses that represent the four foundational pillars in psychological science: biological, cognitive, developmental, and social, including introduction to psychology, developmental psychology, theories of personality as well as courses in mental health and well-being.
The position responsibilities include:
Teach a 3-3 course load in the undergraduate psychology program, including courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Advise psychology majors, mentor students in research or applied projects, and contribute to high-impact experiential learning opportunities (e.g., internships, research labs, or community partnerships). Engage in scholarly activity that contributes to psychological science and involves undergraduate students, where possible. Provide service to the department, college, and university to support program development and student success. Collaborate with faculty to develop innovative curriculum and applied learning opportunities aligned with workforce trends and graduate/professional school preparation. Qualifications/Requirements The position requires a PhD or ABD (completed at the time of hiring) in Psychology. Evidence of successful teaching at the college level. Demonstrated ability to engage undergraduates in research, applied projects, or other experiential learning. A record (or potential) of scholarship in psychological science. Commitment to fostering academic and professional development for students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applied experience in psychology relevant to cognitive, developmental, forensic/legal, and social (e.g., human factors, organizational consulting, legal policy analysis, health and human services, program evaluation, community-based program development). Experience or potential to supervise internships and/or research. Interest in developing new applied or interdisciplinary courses that enhance student career preparation.
