Immediate / Upcoming Quarter About Us Seattle Film Institute is a hands-on, student-centered film school offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in filmmaking; screenwriting; acting; digital arts, animation & game design; and producing. We emphasize both artistic development and real-world professional practice within a collaborative creative environment. Position Overview We are seeking an engaging and intellectually curious Adjunct Faculty member in Psychology to teach Introduction to Psychology for students pursuing careers in film, storytelling, acting, and media creation. While the course provides a foundational introduction to the scientific study of psychology, we are especially interested in candidates who can connect psychological concepts to: character development performance storytelling creativity interpersonal dynamics audience behavior personality and identity The ideal instructor can make psychology feel immediately relevant to aspiring writers, actors, filmmakers, and creative professionals. Course Description

Introduction to Psychology Introduction to Psychology provides an introduction to the scientific study of the biological, mental, and social factors that influence human behavior. Topics covered include personality, learning, memory, critical thinking, intelligence, psychological disorders, and treatments. Responsibilities Teach undergraduate-level Introduction to Psychology courses. Deliver engaging lectures and discussions that connect psychology to contemporary culture, media, storytelling, and creative practice. Foster critical thinking, self-awareness, and analytical skills among students. Create assignments and activities that encourage practical application of psychological concepts. Provide constructive feedback and mentorship in a supportive learning environment. Desired Qualifications Master's degree or higher in Psychology, Counseling, Behavioral Science, or related field. College-level teaching experience preferred. Strong communication and classroom facilitation skills. Ability to make academic material accessible, engaging, and relevant to creative students. Interest in personality theory, character psychology, human motivation, creativity, or performance psychology strongly encouraged. Professional experience intersecting with media, storytelling, acting, education, or the arts is a plus. Ideal Candidate We are especially interested in instructors who can help students understand: why characters behave the way they do how personality shapes relationships and conflict the psychology of persuasion and audience engagement emotional truth in storytelling and performance how psychology informs creative collaboration and leadership Compensation Competitive adjunct faculty compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
