Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Digital Literacy Instructor is responsible for delivering essential technology education to elementary school-age youth, adults, and older adults served by Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County at the Gardner Community Center. The instructor supports participants in building practical digital skills needed to access services, complete school or work tasks, communicate, and navigate online systems safely and effectively. This role includes delivering in-person instruction, adapting digital literacy curriculum to meet participant needs across age groups, assessing progress, supporting classroom and lab operations, and maintaining accurate program records. The Digital Literacy Instructor will work closely with CCSCC program staff and community partners to support outreach, enrollment, and program coordination.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Curriculum Deliver small-group, in-person digital literacy classes for elementary school-age participants and above, including youth, adults, and seniors. Teach foundational computer skills, mobile device use, software applications, internet navigation, email, online safety, and age-appropriate digital skills. Adapt lesson plans and instructional materials to meet varying skill levels, learning styles, and language needs across age groups. Assess participant progress and adjust instruction to support skill development and confidence. Outreach & Enrollment Support participant recruitment through collaboration with CCSCC programs, community partners, and on-site outreach as assigned at the Gardner Community Center. Assist with participant enrollment by assessing skill levels, technology access, and scheduling needs. Program Administration Maintain accurate attendance, participation, and outcome records to support program evaluation and funder reporting. Coordinate with program staff to track progress and identify opportunities for program improvement. Facility & Equipment Management Support the upkeep of the computer lab and instructional spaces, ensuring equipment is functional, safe, and organized. Report technical issues or supply needs in a timely manner. Community Engagement & Safety Represent Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County professionally within the community and with partner organizations. Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and age-appropriate learning environment for all participants. Adhere to CCSCC policies related to safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management, particularly when working with minors.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
AND EXPERIENCE
Experience teaching or supporting digital literacy, computer skills, or technology use to elementary school-age youth and/or adults in a classroom, community, or informal education setting. Experience working with immigrant, refugee, or low-income communities preferred. Experience teaching youth, older adults, or mixed-age groups in a community-based setting preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Bilingual or multilingual abilities reflective of the Gardner Community Center service area. Ability to adapt instruction for learners with varying ages, skill levels, and learning styles. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage participants from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Comfort teaching basic computer skills, internet navigation, email, and online safety. Familiarity with assistive technologies or accessibility tools. Experience working in a grant-funded programs or with outcome reporting requirements. Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation for program reporting. Willingness to work in person at the Gardner Community Center and follow CCSCC policies related to safety, supervision, and mandated reporting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability to work at a desk for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation. Requires the ability to use a computer workstation. Requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Criminal background check via livescan fingerprint. Must have a TB test performed and submit results. Valid driver's license and auto insurance per agency policy or access to reliable transportation sufficient to perform job duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in a classroom and computer lab setting at the Gardner Community Center, with frequent interaction with youth and adult learners.
HOURS AND OTHER CONDITIONS
Standard office hours are Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is an in-person, part-time non-benefitted position based at the Gardner Community Center, with an anticipated starting schedule of 15-24 hours per week. This position follows program schedules rather than standard office hours and requires flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends as needed. This position description outlines the general nature and responsibilities of the role but is not exhaustive. Duties may be modified to respond to client needs and agency operations.
