Job Summary:

The Elementary Reading Interventionist provides targeted, systematic reading instruction to students who are struggling with foundational literacy skills. This role focuses on improving student achievement in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through evidence-based interventions delivered in small-group and one-on-one settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide explicit, systematic reading intervention to identified students in grades K-5. Implement research-based reading intervention programs aligned with district and state literacy standards. Use assessment data (screeners, diagnostics, progress monitoring) to identify student needs and guide instruction. Develop and maintain individualized or small-group intervention plans. Monitor student progress regularly and document results to support data-driven decisions. Collaborate with classroom teachers, literacy coaches, special education staff, and administrators to support student growth. Participate in Response to Intervention (RTI/MTSS) meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions. Adjust instructional strategies based on student performance and progress data. Maintain accurate records, intervention logs, and progress reports. Communicate regularly with teachers and, when appropriate, families regarding student progress. Attend professional development related to literacy instruction and intervention. Support school-wide literacy initiatives and goals.

Qualifications:

Required:

Knowledge of the science of reading and evidence-based intervention practices. Experience working with elementary-age students.

Preferred:

Reading endorsement or certification (e.g., Reading Specialist, Literacy Endorsement). Familiarity with literacy assessment tools and intervention programs. Previous experience as a classroom teacher or interventionist.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong instructional skills in foundational reading components. Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly. Effective classroom and small-group management skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Organization, documentation, and time-management skills. Commitment to equity and meeting the diverse needs of all learners.

Work Environment:

Instruction takes place in classrooms, intervention rooms, or other instructional settings. Works closely with students, teachers, and school staff during the school day.
