JOB SUMMARY
The School-Based Literacy Coach for Bibb County School District is a highly skilled instructional leader responsible for improving student reading outcomes in alignment with House Bill 1193 - The Georgia Early Literacy Act of 2026 and district literacy priorities. This position focuses on building teacher capacity through non-evaluative, evidence-based coaching grounded in scientifically based reading research (science of reading) and dyslexia-informed practices. The Literacy Coach works collaboratively with school leadership to ensure high-quality literacy instruction, intervention fidelity, and measurable gains in student achievement across kindergarten through grade three.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with HB 1193, this position supports statewide literacy improvement by: 1. Implementing literacy instruction aligned to the science of reading. 2. Supporting the district's unified literacy plan. 3. Providing coaching in the use of state-approved, high-quality instructional materials. 4. Strengthening implementation of the Georgia Early Literacy and Dyslexia Act requirements. 5. Serving as a non-evaluative instructional support for teachers to improve early literacy outcomes
INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING AND SUPPORT
  • Provide non-evaluative, evidence-based literacy coaching through: a. Modeling explicit, systematic literacy instruction. b. Conducting classroom observations and instructional analysis. c. Delivering timely, actionable feedback. d. Providing side-by-side classroom support.
  • Spend a minimum of 70% of the instructional day in classrooms working directly with teachers and students.
STRATEGIC COLLABORATION
  • Partner with the school principal and district leaders to design and implement a strategic literacy coaching plan aligned to Bibb County School District goals and state literacy requirements.
DATA DRIVEN INSTRUCTION & MTSS
  • Analyze and interpret multiple sources of student data, including universal reading screeners, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring tools.
  • Support instructional planning, flexible grouping, and targeted interventions within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
  • Use student performance and instructional practice data to establish coaching priorities and design differentiated professional learning for educators.
CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTIONAL FIDELITY
  • Support implementation and ongoing monitoring of evidence-based literacy curricula and interventions.
  • Ensure instruction aligns with the science of reading and meets fidelity and implementation expectations outlined by GaDOE and HB 1193.
  • Assists schools with their continuous improvement plan regarding EL student achievement through the use of various sources of data.
  • Keeps informed of State Board of Education policy and standards related to ESOL instruction and reporting and ensures that local policy and practices are being implemented.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid professional teaching certification issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of documented, successful classroom teaching and/or literacy intervention experience at the assigned grade level(s), preferably K-3.
  • Required proof of completion of Science of Reading professional learning from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) approved list, OR possession of a Georgia Reading Endorsement, with documentation or certificate of completion required; Coaching Endorsement preferred.
  • Strong professional ethics, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality.
KNOWLDEGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

a. Scientifically based reading research (science of reading). b. High-quality literacy instruction and intervention practices. c. Dyslexia-specific instructional strategies and interventions. d. Data analysis and data-driven instructional decision-making. 2. A strong understanding of Georgia Milestones Assessments requirements related to testing, reporting, and support. 3. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 4. Ability to complete assignments and reports, along with preparing presentations for the public. 5. Ability to balance several job functions at one time and work under a heavy workload. 6. Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions. Requires some travel and extended work hours.
Salary/Terms/Benefits:
195 day work year. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Adopted Salary Schedule and position supplement(s). Excellent benefits package (including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; employee assistance program); personal and sick leave; membership in Teachers' Retirement System.
