QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Master's Degree in Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, Reading, Middle/High Grades ELA Content Field or a related field

• Required Experience:

  Have training in at least one structured literacy program (e.g., TTT, OG, LETRS, Wilson)
• Highly Preferred. Have experience in middle/high grades educational programs and/or programs for language and literacy
• Required. Have school-based teacher training and coaching experience
• Required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Science of Reading (SoR) Facilitator is responsible for leading the transformation of literacy practices with school coaches and administrators to build literacy infrastructure at the classroom, school, and district level. Specifically, the SoR Facilitator will work closely with systems and school-level leaders, literacy coaches, teachers, and other instructional staff to design and execute a plan to ensure the Science of Teaching Reading is realized across the system, including assessment, tiered instruction, intervention, professional development, and data.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Support:

Serve as facilitator (i.e., trainer, coach/mentor, and consultant) for the faculty and staff at MMS, MSGA and MHS. Assist leadership at the school and district level in formulating their professional development goals to ensure that language and literacy instruction is research-based and effective. Deliver content knowledge about language and literacy through staff

• wide and grade-level training, data-focused professional learning communities, and needs-based modeling and observations.

Serve as an expert teacher of early literacy/language development to model effective strategies for middle/high grade classroom teachers. Guide individual and systemic reflection on existing instructional routines and expectations through the lens of current Science of Reading research. Support literacy coaches and teachers at assigned sites to implement explicit and systematic instruction based on the Science of Reading. Establish positive relationships with teachers, coaches, and administrators that allow for open communication about the challenges and successes inherent to changing mindsets and practices. Contribute to the development of curriculum materials, resources, and processes. Establish timelines and priorities for teacher training and consultation for assigned sites in collaboration with the team. Stay abreast of federal, state, and LEA mandates, policies, and procedures regarding literacy education, middle grades education, and special education. Actively seek new information as it becomes available to remain informed of the most current scienti?cally based literacy research. Participate in evaluation of Marietta City Schools resources and processes as needed. Assist in data collection for progress monitoring and needs assessments. Deliver training sessions on interpreting student and teacher data to inform instruction, particularly progress monitoring data. Serve as liaison between the Office of Academic Achievement, assigned schools, and external partners as needed.

Physical Demands:

Frequent walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds. Dexterity to write on a board, operate a computer, and use other classroom technology. Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching. Clear speech and hearing abilities for effective communication. Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials.
