Job Title:
Elementary Reading Intervention Teacher Position Function:
Assists the building principal, grade level teams, and students in increasing student achievement outcomes in areas of Literacy. Responsible to both the Building Principal and the Title 1 Office.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Provides high quality instruction to students to help improve specific literacy skills based on appropriate assessment data. Works closely with the Instructional Coach and Principal to monitor student progress in literacy outcomes and make decisions about professional learning or support needed. Consults and plans frequently with classroom teachers and grade level teams on matters related to literacy instruction. This could include co-planning, co-teaching, modeling effective lessons or modeling teaching strategies. Holds knowledge of the district Literacy Protocol and the tiered reading resources available to teachers that support intentional lesson design related to literacy instruction for individuals, small groups and large groups. Assists teachers in identifying, acquiring, and organizing available resources for all tiers of literacy instruction. Guides planning, instruction, and progress monitoring of assessments Have familiarity with district approved screeners, diagnostics, and progress monitoring systems. Hold knowing of how to administer and access reports. Attends appropriate training to improve knowledge and skills in literacy development, assessment, and instructional methodology. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the success of school-wide literacy development and increased student achievement.
Additional Duties:
Assists with additional duties as assigned by the Building Principal or the Title 1 Office.
Equipment:
This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.
Travel:
Limited travel may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Must be able to walk long distances Respond rapidly in emergency situations Stand for long periods of time Bend, twist, balance, stoop, climb steps, reach overhead, lift, push, pull up to 20 pounds or more with assistance Work five days a week, up to seven hours or more per day, or as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in teaching elementary-aged students. Background knowledge in the big ideas related to the Science of Reading. Application of Science of Reading best practices in small or large group settings. Experience with multiple elementary age-groups preferred. Familiar with district standards and assessments and protocols. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to exhibit a professional manner to all customers. Ability to prioritize and organize. Ability to perform a variety of tasks. Ability to change assignments on short notice. Ability to perform under deadline and work in a calm and efficient manner. Ability to work in a positive and cooperative manner with others in the workplace.

Heavy contact with staff and students Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy Must exhibit a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude with all students and colleagues

In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave. Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
Kansas Teaching license required 5 years of teaching experience required Valid Kansas Driver's License required Bachelor's Degree required Completion of LETRS training ¿ Volume 1 and Volume 2 or something equivalent (verified through certificates of completion/attendance) Completion of KSDE of all 6 state-mandated Dyslexia modules (verified through certificates of completion/attendance) ESOL endorsement preferred.
