To Be Determined Job Description Derby Academy is a co-educational Pre-K through 8 day school in Hingham, Massachusetts. Guided by the school's motto - "Improve Both Mind and Heart" - Derby educators provide students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment while also infusing values and character development in their guidance of children. Derby seeks a compassionate and collaborative full-time Middle School Learning Specialist. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience:- Supporting students with language-based learning differences and/or executive functioning needs in one-to-one and/or in small groups
- Collaborating with teachers to provide push-in support
- Working closely with a team of other Learning Specialists, teachers, advisors, counselors, administration, and families of identified students
- Reading and interpreting outside testing in order to develop goals for students
- Helping teachers adopt teaching strategies that benefit all students, including accommodations on assignments and assessments
- Collecting data to monitor progress and maintaining accurate records of students with SSPs
- Developing and teaching lessons to middle school students on topics such as organization, study skills, test preparation, and time management
- Interpreting standardized test scores such as CTP, ERB, True Progress, or MAP Growth
- Writing trimester summaries for report cards
- Committing to ongoing professional development
- Commitment to equity and belonging in teaching practices
- Embracing additional independent school faculty responsibilities This is a 10-month, full-time position reporting to the Director of Student Support Services.
- Masters degree in Special Education, Reading, Literacy, or related field
- Minimum of five years of teaching and/or intervention experience, preferably with middle school-aged children
- Training in Wilson or Orton-Gillingham, The Writing Revolution, and/or other modalities to support reading and writing development
- Experience using a variety of reading assessments and screening tools
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and listening)
- Must be eligible to work in USA and successfully pass all background checks in accordance with Massachusetts law, including CORI, SORI and National Fingerprinting
