Aug 31, 2026 Job Description Wellesley Middle School is seeking a certified Reading Specialist for a .5 FTE position. The selected candidate will use their strong understanding of adolescent literacy development, commitment to data-informed instruction, and ability to build supportive, inclusive learning environments to provide targeted, small-group reading intervention for students in grades 6-8. Instruction will focus on building students' skills in fluency, decoding, and comprehension. At Wellesley Middle School, we are committed to collaborative practice, high-quality instruction, and meeting the needs of every learner. The ideal candidate is both data-driven and student-centered, with a strong belief that all students can grow as readers with the right support.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver explicit, systematic reading instruction for students identified for intervention in small-group settings. Implement evidence-based, high-leverage instructional practices to accelerate student growth. Monitor and report on student progress on a regular basis, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, and use data to refine instruction and ensure measurable outcomes. Use culturally proficient practices to foster a classroom environment that supports students' social, emotional, and academic growth. Participate in professional collaboration and ongoing learning to support effective literacy practices.
Qualifications:
Massachusetts certification as a Reading Specialist (required) Experience providing reading intervention, preferably at the middle school level Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent literacy, structured literacy practices, and progress monitoring Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology. Ability to support the development of culturally responsive programs and activities that promote student engagement, family engagement, community involvement and a positive school climate.
