Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: 1. A Master's Degree or higher. 2. A valid Michigan Teacher Certificate. 3. Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience; preferably in K-5. 4. Academic background that demonstrates training and achievement in the areas of early literacy, as well as, reading assessment, instructional methodologies, and in-depth knowledge in the Science of Reading, and Structured Literacy. 5. Informed on current legislation, research developments, and evidence-based practices regarding early literacy. 6. Well-versed in Michigan's literacy standards for pupils in grades K-5. 7. Current trainer or early literacy trainer preferred. 8. Experience planning and delivering K-5 professional development aligned to the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy, emphasizing explicit, systematic instruction in foundational literacy skills. 9. Experience as a facilitator in the areas of curriculum, instructional methods, and adult learning. 10. Demonstrated ability to use student achievement data to inform instruction and decision-making. 11. Skilled in evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with Michigan's Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy - K-5. 12. Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate instructional change initiatives at local, state, and national levels. 13. Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and collaboration across diverse groups to achieve shared goals. 14. Must have received or be making progress toward receiving LETRS training, preferred. 15. Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
: 1. Proficient in utilizing technology as an effective productivity tool, showcasing skills in various software applications, including word processing, Excel spreadsheets, database management, and online meeting platforms. 2. Experience applying MTSS frameworks that utilize ongoing assessments to drive instructional decisions and ensure student proficiency by grade 3. 3. Ability to use data from diagnostic tools to determine the necessary additional supports and interventions needed by individual pupils in grades pre-K to meet grade lever reading targets. 4. Sufficient knowledge of scientifically based reading research. 5. Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and constituents both individually and as members of a team. 6. Ability to work a flexible schedule involving early morning, evening and/or weekend assignment as needs dictate. 7. Self-directed and motivated. 8. Ability to use electronic technologies to deliver professional information and training.
RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO
1. Working with local district teachers and administrators in providing training and support for developing a comprehensive literacy approach with children in grades K-5. 2. Working with teachers to ensure that evidence-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity. 3. The Early Literacy Coach will support all pre-K-5 teachers in Macomb County and be available to support districts in alignment with emphasis on the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. 4. Conduct demonstration lessons for teachers, teams of teachers, or grade levels utilizing the gradual release model. 5.
Professional Learning and Leadership:
Plan and deliver job embedded professional learning aligned with district goals, county, and state initiatives. 6. Facilitate teacher learning communities and/or PLCs focused on literacy development. 7. Collaborate with administrators to support implementation of literacy-focused continuous improvement development. 8. Plan and facilitate the K-5 Literacy Coaching Network. 9. Participate in all state-required professional learning for 35a(4)-funded literacy coaches, 10. Engage in continuous learning to remain current on best practices, including Structured Literacy and the Science of Reading. 11. Assist teachers in understanding how to use evidence of learning for instructional planning that will have a positive impact on student achievement. 12. Assist educators in interpreting literacy screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring data, to determine the necessary additional supports and interventions needed by individual students in grades K-5 in order to be reading at grade level. 13. Collaborate in developing and supporting Individual Reading Improvement Plans (IRIPs). 14. Engage in collaborative, job-embedded coaching, including classroom observations, instructional modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, goal setting, and reflective dialogue. 15. Provide services to local district educators in collaboration with the Consultant Services Department. 16. Maintain records as directed by the Chief Academic Officer. 17. Perform all other duties as appropriate and determined by the Chief Academic Officer.
