Teachers are directly responsible to the building principal(s) for classroom instruction and supervision of students. The teachers' main responsibility is to lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, physical, social and career development.READING CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED
ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Additional duties may be assigned. Directs a district-wide testing program to determine the reading abilities of all students and to identify those needing special help per district criteria. Plans and administers the reading resource program. Interprets student needs and progress in reading remediation to the classroom teacher and the parents. Provides leadership in the regular program of reading instruction. Supports a district-wide reading philosophy and curriculum, and interprets it to the school administration, the staff and the public. Recommends adoption and the use of varied instructional materials, including textbooks, reference works, kits, trade books, and audiovisual aids. Conducts in-service workshops and demonstrations pertinent to methods and materials appropriate to various levels of reading instruction. Regularly observes reading instruction in elementary classrooms, upon request of principals, helps teachers improve their performance. Consults with members of the student personnel team at individual case conferences as requested. Confers with parents concerning individual students having special reading problems or requiring special remedial help, and with any parents requesting such a conference. Interprets, as appropriate, test results and statistical data concerning reading to the administration, staff, and public at large. Maintains individual student reading records. Devises and maintains such records and reports as are necessary to the successful execution of the job. Prepares and administers the departmental budget. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupils' activities. Participates in and can articulate the Multi-Tiered System of Support. Participates in implementation of Missouri Reading Success PlansEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Appropriate Missouri Teacher Certification Bachelor's degree or higher K-12 Special Reading CertificationCOMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, and interact effectively with all aspects of the school community is required. Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints.MATHMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages. Ability to use and teach mathematics commensurate with assigned position.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have a physical exam and TB test prior to first day of work at the employer's expense. Demonstrate organizational ability and attention to detail. Ability to provide assistance to the school community as necessary. Ability to work independently. Excellent human relation skills. Knowledge of office equipment (computers, copiers, fax machine, and related items).PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 50 pounds, such as, to lift files, papers, and equipment.
