We provide high quality therapy, education, and social opportunities for increased access to opportunities, genuine engagement and enjoyment of life. Embrace is a small organization working with about 15 individuals at a time. Role Description This is a part-time, on-site role for a Teacher / Therapist at Embrace Therapeutic Educational Program in Durham, NC. The Teacher / Therapist will be responsible for working with 3-6 autistic students ages 9-16 on academic subjects. Instruction will be mostly one-on-one and in pairs. Some academic classes are in groups of six students, but the ratio is no more than 3 students to 1 instructor. Instructors are balancing the presentation of curriculum with providing support for communication, regulation and engagement. All staff receives on-going training in maintaining engagement, redirection and de-escalation, and preserving clients' dignity in crisis response. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Therapy, or a related field 2+ years teaching or working in behavior analysis Teaching certification or certification as a reading or math specialist Must have a strong area of expertise- a degree/experience in ABA alone is not sufficient Excellent Communication skills Relevant experience in therapeutic educational settings Ability to assess student's academic needs and prepare instruction and materials accordingly Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
