Jul 1, 2026 Job Description PKMS ELA/Reading Teacher Job Description Oklahoma Certification in Elementary Education and/or ELA is required. The English Language Arts (ELA) teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills that are fundamental to literacy. The ELA teacher supports the development and appreciation of a variety of literary genres, motivates students to read widely for information and recreation, develops standards for critical judgment of written and spoken communications, discovers and develops students' special talents, and is attentive to students with special needs.
Work Responsibilities and Expectations:
Align instructional practices and resources with Oklahoma Academic Standards (OAS) Support student learning through thoughtful planning and preparation using sound classroom management practices Attend professional development training opportunities and school-related meetings Remain informed and current on effective ELA instructional practices and research-based educational theories Support school-wide instructional initiatives Gather student performance data through observation, dialogue, formative assessments, and summative assessments Design instructional strategies that meet the diverse needs of students Maintain updated records of student performance including grades and assessment data Comply with deadlines, due dates, and job-related expectations communicated to faculty and staff by site and district administration Communicate consistently and sensitively with students and families regarding student performance Serve on-site and district-level committees as needed Participate in IEP team meetings with the interests of students as the primary motivating factor Assist students in adopting behaviors conducive to success in the classroom setting Attend and actively participate in school events, activities, and initiatives Follow the school's policies, practices, and procedures as a member of the school community Assume other duties as assigned and required for the fulfillment of job-related achievement
